About the Program
The Texas Tobacco Prevention and Control Program aims to reduce the toll of tobacco use on the health, safety, and well-being of all Texans.
Goals
- Prevent tobacco use initiation among youth and young adults.
- Promote quitting among youth and adults.
- Eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke.
- Reduce and eliminate tobacco-related disparities among population groups.
- Develop and maintain statewide capacity to support a sustainable tobacco prevention and control program.
Best Practices
The Texas Tobacco Prevention and Control Program follows the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Best Practices for Comprehensive Tobacco Control Program, which is an evidence-based guide that helps states plan and establish comprehensive, sustained, and accountable tobacco control programs through five overarching components:

- Mass-Reach Health Communication Interventions
- Cessation Interventions
- Surveillance and Evaluation
- Infrastructure, Administration, and Management
