A pedestrian died at a hospital Thursday afternoon after being struck by a train in southwest Denver, the Denver Police Department said.

The pedestrian was struck by the train shortly after 2 p.m., police said in a statement. The incident happened near Ellsworth Avenue and Rio Grande Boulevard, which is near a rail line.

The pedestrian was transported to a hospital and was later pronounced dead, police said. The incident is under investigation.
