Schoolboy, 15, 'tried to kill man and woman in axe attack' where victim remains in hospital with severe head injuries
A 15-year-old schoolboy is accused of trying to kill a man and woman with an axe.
The pair, a married couple in their 40s, were attacked in their home in Worthing as they slept on Monday morning.
The boy appeared at Crawley Magistrates' Court accused of two counts of attempted murder following the incident.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address at the hearing on Tuesday, The Argus reported.
One victim suffered serious head injuries and remains in hospital, the court was told.
He was said to be in a state of confusion when emergency services arrived to find his bedroom covered in blood, Sussex Police said, while his wife has been discharged from hospital.
Jeremy King, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said the man had 'more serious injuries to his face, eyebrows and the top of the head'.

The boy is known to the victims, according to police.
Chief Inspector Kelly Lewis said: 'This was a traumatic incident and our thoughts are with the two victims.
'The boy is known to the victims, and we are not seeking anyone else in relation to this incident.'
The teenager is set to appear again at a crown court and was been remanded into custody.
- An earlier version of this article reported that it was heard in court that one of the victims lost an arm. After being contacted by Sussex Police, we are happy to clarify that this is not the case. The article has been amended to reflect this.
