We have Massachusetts-based Selig Manufacturing Company to thank for bringing some of the most beautiful European Contemporary furniture designs to America. Founded by Mandell Selig and Samuel Wexler in 1931, Selig was one of the leading importers and producers of contemporary furniture, with high-end designs originating from Scandinavian countries and a product range that highlighted the airy forms of post-war Danish furniture. Selig was no small fish either, with five American factories that worked to make the beautiful designs accessible to the American public. Although the company was eventually sold to Simmons in 1970, many vintage Selig pieces are still considered some of the most cutting edge pieces of contemporary furniture of the 20th century. Some of our personal favorite Selig pieces include the many lounge chairs they produced. At the time, much of Scandinavian furniture focused on creating the ultimate relaxing experience with lightweight and luxuriously designed lounge chairs. As a result, some of the most comfortable lounge chairs found in modern-day homes are based on those same designs. Selig lounge chairs highlighted the trendiest designs of the time, whether they were chrome rocking chairs or barrel back club chairs, and used high-quality materials to ensure they would last and become iconic heirloom pieces for years to come. Despite no longer producing pieces anymore, Selig is still a name that carries serious value in world of contemporary furniture.
