Young pullets change behavior

My chicks are just over 3 months old (hatch date 23 April). They used to spend most of every day playing outside in their big shady pen or sitting on their outside roosts in that pen. At night they go on their coop up on their inside roosts to sleep. I shut the door as it starts getting dark and open it early morning.

About 2 weeks ago they suddenly started spending most of their time inside in the coop. It is hot here right now and it has to be much cooler outside in the shade and the breeze than inside so that surprised me but the door is open all day so it is their choice. Then I discovered they are spending at least a large part of each night with all 8 of them piled up in 2 of the 3 nesting boxes! Is this normal behavior for young pullets especially in this hot weather?

They were 8 weeks old when I got them and, as far as I know, they were all sleeping on the inside roosts every night. I occasionally saw one in the nesting boxes but they never stayed in there for long and certainly never all piled in there on top of each other like that. Sometimes I find them all in there even in the heat of the day.

Is there any possibility that predators are harassing them?
Yes. I purchased 10 chicks and some predator (weasel or snake?) got in through small holes (less than 1 inch) in the coop at night twice in the first week after I got them and killed one bird each time. We covered every hole we could find in the coop with 1/4" hardware cloth and, as far as we can tell, nothing as gotten into the coop since. Their outside run is completely chain link panels including the roof. We can't afford to cover it with hardware cloth right now but luckily, so far, nothing I know of has gotten to them during the day.

We live on 200 acres surrounded on 3 sides by National Forest so predators are plentiful from bears all the way down to weasels and snakes so, sadly, we will probably never be completely safe from predators but we protect our animals as best we can. The chickens are in a pen inside our dog tight fenced in yard which is in the middle of our property surrounded by horse and cattle fields with a 6 strand high tensile electrified perimeter fence. The chickens are not allowed to roam outside their covered pens at all due to plentiful aerial predators. The chicks do not act scared at all when I am out there but that doesn't mean they don't feel safer when l am there. They run to me for pets and treats and tend to stay outside if I am close to their pen. I actually wish they showed more sense about running for shelter when possible threats appear but, as far as I can tell they don't know anything might hurt them even after our 2 early losses. My dog likes to lay next to their fence and they will pull her hair through the fence and snuggle next to her on their side of the fence. They take zero notice of hawks, eagles, etc flying overhead. I guess I don't think they are scared of anything but not because I don't think there are things here they should be scared of. I don't think any predators are likely to get into the coop now after all our reinforcements but would not be surprised if some prowl around outside it at night looking for ways in.
