great conditions, perfect hike. decent amount of people
North Canyon trail to Double Falls from Silver Falls State Park. I hate the north Canyon Trail to the Twin Falls Trail to the short double Falls spur. Double Falls was a mirror trickle at this time of year in October. The weather was fantastic at about 9 AM in the morning. Still the trails are damp to wet in many areas. The trails are primarily dirt and rock with some gravel in areas. A few areas had standing water on them. There are multiple trails at branch off from these main trails. The parking lot was fairly empty when I began but by the time I got back just after 11 AM. The parking lot was full. There is a fee to park and there are two restrooms at the parking area. Due to the popularity of these trails, there are quite a number of hikers. Some of these hiker seemed very inexperienced and some were obviously season hikers. The hike in is quite easy due to the fact that it is primarily downhill into the canyon. The hike out is just the opposite and almost completely uphill with some flat areas. I would rate this trail, moderate just for the uphill portion on the way back to the trailhead.
The condition of the trails is poor due to the current storms taking down trees and debris. I was in the park today and saw the top of 2 trees break off and land very close to the trail. I decided to vacate the park immediately. Please consider the current weather conditions before you decide to visit this park. It’s my hope that they close the park until the hazards can be removed. Stay safe!!!
