The whole hike is absolutely beautiful. Uphill and some spots where it mellows out where you can catch your breath… I was doing 3 miles in an hour while going uphill. Keeping in mind that this trail was just 7.3 miles as posted.. this trail was 9.5 miles. NOT 7.3. If you park at the trailhead parking lot that’s a .5 mile walk to the actual trailhead. I arrived at 10 am and parking lot was looking full. But when I got back at 3 pm I realized it wasn’t full at all prob about 70 cars parked in all ways imaginable. It was quite easy to get out no insane traffic or wait times. Amazing time
Beautiful hike even in late October. Still some water at Nevada Fall. Not terribly strenuous on the incline and the descent is easy. 10/10 recommend for those looking for a moderate hike. We parked at curry village and took the shuttle two stops to #16 to start at the trailhead.
This is a beautiful hike. While the water from the falls is not flowing strong right now, it is still completely worth the trip up to sit at the top and take in the scenery. I did not have any issues with bugs or overcrowding. The trailhead does have restrooms as well as a water source.
Came from LYV, took the southern split to Nevada Falls on the way out. Pack was about 20lbs on the way out. This trail was pleasant, fairly busy. The views from the falls were gorgeous and you get to see the view for a long time if you are taking this way down from camp.
Nice section of the JMT that offers an easier, less-crowded way to get down from Nevada Falls to the lower section of the Mist Trail. Steady descent with none of the deep steps that you’ll find on the Mist. Partly paved but the asphalt is crumbling in spots… sort of like the Four Mile Trail but far less steep. If you have poles to steady your descent and take some of the impact off your knees, you can make really good time.
Exceptional trail! Easy overall with gentle switchbacks. 8mi roundtrip from the trailhead. The Mist Trail remains closed, so this requires a slightly longer out-and-back using just the John Muir trail. Moderately crowded bottom half, but crowds thin out after Clark Point. Highly recommended!
Started hiking at day break. Only a few people on trail. Not much water at Nevada Falls. On the way back down, the trail was crowded. It was good to hike early to avoid heat and people. There was water at the first bridge crossing and a bathroom. Bathroom at top of Navada Falls was closed. Note Mist Trail closed at 7:00 AM for repairs, so you must hike the JMT to Clark Point then up to Navada Falls.
Magnificent hike started at 2pm and completed in 4 hours (backwards, as the mist trail reopened at 3:30pm), with a short swim stop at the very top! The climb is gentler that way, so it was perfect. The views were magnificent, and although there wasn't much water in the cascades at this time of year, it was still superb.
Beautiful views from the top of the falls. Have good trail or hiking shoes/boots. I saw many people slipping and sliding on the trails on the way down wearing tennis shoes, one lady was wearing flip flops…Rocks have a thin dust or sand on them and footing can be a challenge without proper shoes.
Longer hike with the Mist trail closed during the week but it was awesome. Note, the 4.38 miles we logged in this review is JUST the way up, NOT ROUND TRIP. Round trip for us was between 9-10 miles. Bring lots of water, we passed many people struggling carrying only one water bottle with them.
Really enjoyed this trail although mist trail closed for repairs! Lots of switch backs! Very leisurely hike up and very hot come down! Defs would recommend starting early! Headed off at 7:20am and route not too crowded at this time! Epic views! Doesn’t feel real! Clark’s point is a great viewpoint!
Super pretty! Got to do it once with coworkers and then a couple days later with a group of seventh graders for a school trip. Had a blast. A lot of it is pretty steep and challenging, but the trail is in awesome condition. Great views at the top. Mist trail closed right now for much of the week. (I think m-f 7am-330 pm)
