She showed me one of the “Chucky” movies as a way to scare me, but instead, it only made me fall in love with the genre. Now, I consume all things terrifying, and Halloween has quickly become my favorite holiday. But sometimes, Halloween just isn’t enough, and it seems like the spooky community is in agreement—we need more Halloween vibes all year round. Thankfully, there's Summerween! What Is Summerween? "Summerween" (or the union of summer and Halloween) was originally coined by the Disney TV series “Gravity Falls” in season 1, episode 12. The citizens of the fictional town in Oregon love Halloween so much they decide to celebrate it again—on the second-to-last Friday in June. Since then, connoisseurs of Halloween have run with this fictional holiday and plan big summer blowouts to celebrate being spooky (and pray for the cooler days of fall to come swiftly). If you’re looking to gather your ghoul pals this summer, we’ve rounded up some tips and tricks on how to plan your best Summerween ever. How To Celebrate Summerween Carve a Watermelon Jack-o’-melons frequently appear in the “Gravity Falls” Summerween episode, and they’re the summer equivalent to the traditional pumpkin jack-o’-lanterns of fall. Carve some creepy faces and maybe grab a couple of slices to eat while you’re at it. But be warned—your watermelon will only stay fresh for a short while, so showcase them only when you’re absolutely ready. If you master your melon, you can try a pineapple Jack-o'-lantern next. Put on Some Summer Themed Halloween Movies To get in the Summerween spirit, you just have to immerse yourself in summer-themed spooky movies. Chances are that a certain franchise that features summer camps and a night stalker comes to mind, but there are certainly other spooky summer movies for the whole group to enjoy. Create Some Scary Good Snacks Gather up on-theme snacks to enjoy with friends. Mini meatloaf ghosts, hot dog mummies, gummy worm dirt cups, and witch's finger cookies are all deliciously spooky eats that are perfect for your gathering! Chef John Tell Spooky Stories Around the Campfire What screams "summer" more than campfires and scary stories? Whip out the s'mores and flashlights, and let your imagination run wild! If spooky stories aren’t your thing, no worries. Summerween should be a stress-free version of Halloween celebrated for bringing the spooky community together. Was this page helpful?
