My hometown is small, and Walmart is one-stop shopping. For my mom, who is a fantastic cook and loves feeding her family, Walmart is where she finds everything, but she’s not going out of necessity alone. She has fallen in love with The Pioneer Woman’s range of kitchen tools, and her most recent and beloved purchase is a set of prep bowls that cost just $3 apiece.

Recently, my mom purchased The Pioneer Woman Mixing Bowl set, and she’s been using them non-stop, but she needed smaller options for mixing salad dressings, serving condiments, and prepping ingredients. That’s when she found the Walmart brand’s Eight-Piece Melamine Prep Bowl Set. It comes with four small prep bowls and matching lids, and my mom (along with more than 300 shoppers) love that they’re shatterproof, an ideal size, and versatile.

Unlike my mom’s first set of The Pioneer Woman bowls, each piece in this collection is the same size, and that’s part of why she loves them. They hold up to 2 cups, so they’re ideal for prepping and storing ingredients. Before she actually cooks, she chops any veggies and herbs and assembles spice blends in the bowls, so they’re ready to go as she needs them. Essentially, they’re for mise en place. Because they’re small, the bowls don’t take up too much space on the counter, and they fit just enough.

In addition to the bowls’ size, their versatility is another favorite feature. While these aren’t mixing bowls, they can be used that way, and my mom does—often. Most recently, she whipped up a quick vinaigrette in one of the bowls, which was the perfect amount for her and my dad to use. She whisked everything together right in the bowl and didn’t need to break out a mixer or blender. She’s done the same with condiments, blending sriracha and mayo to dip fries in and creating a quick cocktail sauce with horseradish, ketchup, and lemon juice.

When my mom’s not using them for preparing a meal, she relies on the bowls for serving side dishes, which works well for my family since we all like different options to go with our main course. But they don’t have to be used individually. If you host taco nights, fill each of the four bowls with toppings and let friends and family assemble their own food, or create a post-dinner dessert bar with candies inside each one.

Of course, there’s also the durable construction. The bowls are made of melamine, so they’re shatterproof and can be used both indoors and out without fear of dangerous glass if they’re dropped. Plus, they all come with lids. Whether you’re whisking together a dressing, creating a sauce, or chopping ingredients, if you have leftovers, toss on the lid and place them in the fridge. Thanks to the lid’s design, the bowls will stack and take up little space.

While I trust my mom’s opinion above all others, she’s not the only one who loves the bowls. Over 300 shoppers have given them perfect reviews, calling them must-haves. Like my mom, customers love their small size and use them for snacks and serving ice cream. Others love them for packing lunches, and say the lids fit tightly and prevent spills.

Whether you’re on the hunt for prep bowls or want a set for side dishes and snacks, The Pioneer Woman’s Eight-Piece Prep Bowl Set is a mom-approved option. For even more Walmart finds from The Pioneer Woman, keep scrolling.
