And it's 100% worth the trek.

It's January, and in the wake of the holiday flurry of spending money, hosting, and eating out, I find myself craving a full reset. My favorite way to reset my kitchen is to do a full assessment of my food, clean out any products whose 'Best By' dates ended in 2023, and then do a big restock of the staples. That means going to my go-to grocery store for the basics and the must-haves. One such product is a produce section pull that I add to my cart truly every time I go to Trader Joe's, and it's one that's worth a special trip to get.

Why I Love Trader Joe's Teeny Tiny Avocados

I would buy this product for the name alone (side note: Trader Joe's seems to have an affinity for dubbing things "Teeny Tiny"), but there are so many other reasons to love Teeny Tiny Avocados. They are simply smaller avocados—somewhere between 1/2 to 2/3 of the size of a typical Haas avocado, or, in Trader Joe's words "they're where-have-you-been-all-my-life-sized." They are, simply put, the perfect size for a single serving.

Gone are the days of brown and gray half-eaten avocados dying in the back of my fridge. I hate wasting food and avocados are not cheap, but they are one of my favorite produce items to keep around for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and every snack in between. These single-ish-serving avocados ensure none go to waste. I also find they ripen faster and more consistently thanks to their "teeny tiny" size.

Trader Joe's

This is a product I've only ever seen at Trader Joe's, though it appears that Good & Gather, Target's house grocery brand, now sells a comparable product, too. But the quality and price of Trader Joe's Teeny Tiny Avocados are unbeatable. Just last week, conventional Haas avocados were two for $4 at my local grocery store whereas a bag of Teeny Tiny avocados was just $3.50 for six (albeit smaller) avocados.

Since six avocados, even small ones, is still a lot of avocado, my trick to make sure none go to waste is by putting them in the fridge when they're just shy of ripe. They finish ripening in the fridge slower and don't go bad nearly as quickly. That way I can stretch a bag of Teeny Tiny Avocados over the course of about two weeks.

With my trusty Teeny Tiny Avocados by my side, I'm making guacamole, avocado toast, and salsa all week long. It's a little luxury I can add to my grocery list without fear of breaking my budget. And that alone is worth making a special to trip to Trader Joe's any day.
