I've been waiting to see this in grocery stores for years.

Every weekend, my partner and I like to go to a nearby bakery for a special coffee and some pastries. Living in New York, we're lucky enough to have some incredible bakeries within a few blocks of our apartment, but one in particular stands out. It's a Scandinavian bakery that has amazing sourdough bread and croissants, but it's really known for one specialty: Swedish cardamom buns.

Well now I don't have to spend $5 on one small (yet delicious!) pastry every weekend, because my favorite grocery store carries them. Trader Joe's just introduced Brown Sugar Cardamom Buns to its bakery and I couldn't be more excited.

You've had cinnamon buns in every format and flavor, but have you had a cardamom bun? Cardamom is a warm spice that's super fragrant and common in baked goods. It's not a 1-1 swap for cinnamon; it's a little bit more piney- and perfumed-tasting and is somewhat of an acquired taste on its own. But mixed with butter and sugar, you have a match made in pastry heaven.

That's certainly the case with Trader Joe's newest addition to its bakery section. There are several types of Swedish cardamom buns, but the Trader Joe's Brown Sugar Cardamom Buns are a take on kardemummabullar, a knotted pastry that's like a cinnamon roll but more twisted. If you also think the best part of a cinnamon roll is unrolling it and eating it layer by layer until you get to the gooey center, you will love cardamom buns, which pack way more pieces to peel apart and eat one-by-one.

Trader Joe's new Brown Sugar Cardamom Buns come in packs of two for $4.99 (about half the price of the ones sold by my local bakery). Early reviews are positive on social media with commenters writing, "I LOVED these" and calling them "heavenly."

One commenter added "Well, I'm a Scandinavian and love cardamom! Not as good as mom's...but I still love 'em! They do need heating up in the oven a bit." Many commenters echoed that sentiment. Like nearly all of Trader Joe's pastries, a few minutes in the toaster or air fryer transforms these buns into moist, gooey irresistible masterpieces. Pair it with a hot cup of coffee and that's your Sunday morning, sorted.
