Slow Cooker Moose Roast

4.5
(66)

A friend suggested this delicious moose meat recipe because I had a moose roast sitting in my freezer for a couple of months. Not being a wild game fan, I had no idea how to cook it. I didn't want to feel guilty about it being in my freezer, so I made it at Christmas along with the turkey, and it was the hit of the dinner!

Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 16 servings

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 4 pounds moose roast

  • 1 (1 ounce) envelope dry onion soup mix

  • 2 cups apple juice, or more as needed

Directions

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add roast and brown on all sides, then transfer to a slow cooker.

  2. Sprinkle onion soup mix over roast, then pour in apple juice. Cover and cook on Medium until meat is very tender, 6 to 8 hours, checking occasionally to make sure there is sufficient liquid and adding more apple juice if necessary.

  3. Serve roast with cooking juices, or thicken the juices for a tasty gravy.
