  • 1 cup shortening

  • ½ cup white sugar

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ¼ cup colored sugar for decoration

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.

  2. In a large bowl, cream together the shortening, white sugar and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time then stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; blend into the creamed mixture. Roll dough into 1/2 inch balls and place them 1 inch apart onto the prepared cookie sheets. Flatten each ball slightly and sprinkle with colored sugar.
