Ingredients

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter

  • 1 Walla Walla or other sweet onion, thinly sliced

  • 1 (4 ounce) package cream cheese

  • 4 hot dogs, or your favorite sausages

  • 4 hot dog buns

  • 1 cup sauerkraut

  • brown mustard

Directions

  1. Preheat an outdoor grill (or a grill pan) for medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate (or pan).

  2. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions; cook slowly until softened and deep brown, about 15 minutes. Warm cream cheese over low heat in a small skillet until very soft.

  3. Grill hot dogs until well browned. Lightly grill hot dog buns on both sides.

  4. Spread warm cream cheese on toasted buns, add hot dogs or sausages, top with onions, sauerkraut, and mustard.
