Many years ago, a friend gave me this recipe for mincemeat pie filling made with simple ingredients. It's so good that even those who don't care for mincemeat pie will like it.

Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 16 servings

  • 4 cups chopped apples

  • 1 ½ cups diced cooked beef

  • 1 ½ cups raisins

  • 1 ½ cups white sugar

  • 1 cup beef broth

  • 1 large orange - peeled, sectioned, and cut into bite-sized pieces

  • ½ cup sorghum or molasses

  • ¼ cup sweet pickle juice

  • ¼ cup pineapple juice or apricot juice

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves

  • ½ teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Gather all ingredients.

  2. Mix apples, diced beef, raisins, sugar, beef broth, orange sections, sorghum, pickle juice, pineapple juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt together in a large bowl until well combined.

  3. Store filling in the refrigerator or freeze until ready to use.

This recipe makes enough to fill two 9-inch pies.
