Original recipe (1X) yields 24 servings 3 cups packed brown sugar ¾ cup shortening ¾ teaspoon cream of tartar 4 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 5 cups all-purpose flour ¾ teaspoon baking soda Directions Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Cream together the sugar, shortening and eggs. Add vanilla and mix well. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar.
