Recently made it for the boys when they came home from a long trip. Left a note by the crock pot with instructions for adding the sour cream at the end. :) They figured it out. Comfort food at its easiest! Helpful (0) Gingerbread Cookies 12/06/2009 Crispy, spicy, warm, and make your home smell like the holidays. Perfect. First time I have made gingerbread from scratch, and will continue to use this recipe. Made one recipe exactly as stated and perfect for gingerbread men. Made another batch a bit healthier for our home - substituted splenda, 1 cup whole wheat flour (other cup all purpose white) and still was great texture and flavor... and I accidently got pumpkin pie spice for this batch and still yummy. Good quality spices do make a difference. Thanks everyone for sharing! Helpful (1) Quick Yeast Rolls 11/08/2009 Made these for dinner last night. The texture was light and fluffy, just how you would want a dinner roll to turn out. I will practice this recipe a bit more, since I am not that good with breads. I found this dough SUPER sticky, added much more flour than the recipe required... that is the cooks fault though :) All of my dinner guests said the flavor was great. Next time will add more sugar because I like my dinner rolls a bite sweeter. The sour cream sauce is great with the cheesy layer on top. I added chopped mushrooms into the skillet with the onion mixture. Took the advice of other reviewers and used french onions on the top instead of crackers, I really think it gave it more flavor. This will replace my usual "can o soup" casserole every holiday. Versatile too; I used cornbread crumbs and pre-cooked turkey sausage. Took the advice of other reviewers and made the night before, reserved some of the stock and baked in the oven since we fried a turkey. Delish! Helpful (1) Easy Granola Bars 07/31/2008 I give this 5 stars for ease and versitility. Have made it several times with several variations for friends. For those that had problems with texture, I found that cooking on a baking sheet allowed the bars to cook more evenly. They come out a bit more chewy in the middle when cooked in a glass pan (some people like that though). You must let them cool and harden before you cut them up. Variations I tired: Omitted the butter and used Fat Free S.C. milk. Added a cup or two of high protein cereal, cup of butterscotch chips and sunflower seeds. Delish. Also made them "tropical" with coconut, macadamia nuts and banana chips. Be creative!! I am going to try and add some protein powder next time and see what happens... :) Helpful (2)
