If you’re a TikTok user, you may have come across a new trend that Tiktok creators are recently espousing—eating yellow dragon fruit. Many of these influencers noted that this tropical fruit helps relieve constipation. So, should you give this fruit a try?

What Is Yellow Dragon Fruit?

The yellow dragon fruit (aka yellow pitaya or yellow pitahaya) is native to Mexico, Central American countries, and South American countries including Ecuador and Colombia. It has a similar appearance to the red dragon fruit, which is grown in the same regions but also cultivated in the United States, Australia and certain countries in Asia.

While the red dragon fruit comes in a deep fuchsia or white hue with edible black seeds, depending on the variety, the yellow dragon fruit has glistening white flesh with black seeds. Compared to the red dragon fruit varieties, the yellow dragon fruit has larger edible seeds and is sweeter and more tender, resembling the texture of a ripe kiwi.

Where To Get Yellow Dragon Fruit

You may find the yellow dragon fruit in your local grocery store, farmer’s market or online. The price of one fruit may vary depending on its size and time of the year. It may cost anywhere from $4 per fruit to $79 for five pounds.

Can Yellow Dragon Fruit Really Help You Poop?

Like its red counterpart, the yellow dragon fruit is a natural laxative, offering almost 5 grams of fiber for every six-ounce serving. Most of the fiber in dragon fruit is soluble fiber, which dissolves in water, softening stools and acting like a sponge to carry cholesterol out of the body. Not only that, but this exotic fruit is also an excellent source of magnesium, supporting bone health, DNA production, and muscle and nerve function and maintaining blood pressure and blood sugar levels. This exotic fruit is also a source of vitamin C, an essential nutrient for healing wounds, making collagen, supporting the immune system and making iron in plant-based foods more absorbable.

How To Use Yellow Dragon Fruit

Enjoy this juicy and seedy fruit by cutting the fruit in half and scooping out the flesh with a spoon or cutting the meat into cubes. Add it to a fruit salad for a juicy and refreshing treat. Yellow dragon fruit is also a perfect ingredient for smoothie bowls

The Bottom Line

The yellow dragon fruit may appear similar to its red counterpart, but its tender and juicy flesh will melt in your mouth. Eating this fruit may also ease constipation—its high fiber content will help things move along in your gut. Simply enjoy the fruit with a spoon, cut it into cubes or add it to your favorite smoothie.
