Food News and Trends Campbell’s Soup Is Putting Grilled Cheese in a Can And fans don't know what to think. Individually, each half stands strong, but paired up, they’re legendary. Such is the way with grilled cheese and tomato soup. If you have one half of the comfort food equation, you’re often left wanting the other. So, Campbell’s decided the duo shouldn’t be separated any longer. In its latest limited-edition launch, the brand has created a soup that’s one part tomato soup, one part grilled cheese, and equal parts iconic. Campbell's Campbell’s New Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup Campbell’s is consecrating the beloved combo of grilled cheese and tomato soup by launching the world's first-ever Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup. Now, you can enjoy the cozy, quintessential lunchtime pairing with just a soup spoon. The sandwich-flavored soup is already the talk of the internet, with some fans fully on board and others decidedly swearing off the soup aisle. But, for most of us, the only reaction to the first-of-its-kind flavor is pure curiosity. As one user put it: “I can’t decide if I am grossed out or if I am excited to try it. Little bit of both I guess.” So, what does a grilled cheese and tomato soup taste like? We’d assume it’s like a blend of Campbell’s classic tomato soup and the creamy condensed Cheddar cheese soup we’ve loved through the years. One fan compared the new product to Spagettios without the noodles, while another guessed it’d taste like the tomato-flavored Kraft mac and cheese. The condensed soup is made with three kinds of cheese—Monterey Jack, Cheddar, and a surface-ripened semisoft cheese (like a Muenster)—as well as cream to create a rich and luscious soup texture, perfect for topping with buttery croutons. According to the brand, it’s “delicious when reconstituted with milk for cheesier taste or with water, for a more tomato-forward flavor.” The "exclusive" new soup is just starting to appear on shelves (spotted recently at ShopRite) but will roll out to all major soup-carrying stores ahead of National Grilled Cheese Day, April 12th. However, if you want to get your hands on the 2-in-1 soup sooner, Campbell’s is also offering a giveaway of 412 (a.k.a. 4/12) cans to the public from now through March 20th. Without trying it, we can't tell if this brand-new soup is brilliant or just plain bizarre, but one thing is for sure: it’s original. And frankly, it doesn’t matter if the ‘grilled cheese’ is included in the can or not—we’ll still be dipping our crusty, gooey grilled cheeses into our soup bowls regardless. Was this page helpful?
