Cornbread is a quintessential comfort food. It tastes great as a side for barbecue, or with jams and butter for a sweet snack, or crumbled into your favorite soup or chili. Jennifer Garner has a deep love for cornbread, and she has a great cornbread recipe, called Grandmom's Cornbread, which her mother, Patricia English Garner, had passed down to her. So, whenever she's baking up a fresh batch, she makes sure to give her main lady a call.

As she had the urge to make some cornbread, Garner posted a photo and wrote in an Instagram post, "I call my mom every time I make cornbread—even though I've written the recipe in every notebook, even though I am sure I could toss it together in my sleep. Maybe watching this will show you why, perhaps, I just like to call my mom. ♥This cornbread takes no time at all, is incredibly forgiving, and is an every other day staple at my house: perfect to fill in a dinner, perfect for a snack, perfect for breakfast. Plus, it tastes like home. I hope you love it as much as I do. ♥"

And she listed her recipe and directions for making your own at home — with yes, the suggestion to give your mother a phone call to say hello!

As for how to enjoy it, Garner's mom says to eat it with butter (and we don't really blame her!), so make sure it's warm and fresh, and spread that luscious butter on and watch it melt. You can also add in herbs or spices, like cayenne or garlic and rosemary, to play around with different savory flavors. Want sweetness? Try cinnamon or honey. There are so many ways to top that cornbread for any meal of the day!
