And while I also bake up pumpkin treats and order a pumpkin spice latte as soon as there’s a chill in the air, my favorite seasonal sweets don’t appear until after we’ve handed out Halloween candy and put away the pumpkin decor. Even though it’s been unseasonably warm here in the Northeast, grocery stores are already in full holiday mode, filling shelves with my seasonal flavor of choice: peppermint. Costco’s beloved peppermint bark is back, supermarket freezers are stocked with Häagen-Dazs’s peppermint ice cream bars, Pillsbury is launching a new candy cane sugar cookie dough, and just this week, I spotted my favorite holiday cookie at Aldi. Benton’s Fudge Covered Peppermint Cremes Are Back at Aldi It’s always a treat to walk down the Aldi Finds aisle and discover what affordable copycats the budget-friendly supermarket has to offer. Many holiday essentials have already popped up, from a Le Creuset copycat perfect for Thanksgiving casseroles to a $6 version of a traditional European Christmas dessert. Aldi’s Aisle of Shame is currently filled with festive candies and cookies, but I skipped past the truffles, fudge, and nougats to grab a box of Benton’s Fudge Covered Peppermint Cremes. I wait all year for these irresistible cookies and usually get the version at Trader Joe’s, known as Dark Chocolate Covered Peppermint Joe-Joe’s. I haven’t spotted them at TJ’s yet, so I was excited to see Aldi’s version already in stock for $3.49. These Fudge Covered Peppermint Cremes are exactly as described: Oreo-like sandwich cookies filled with sweet peppermint icing and completely enrobed in dark chocolate. Topping it all off is a sprinkle of crushed peppermint candies, which add a satisfying crunch and extra holiday spirit to each bite. I’m not the only one eagerly awaiting the return of this holiday treat. “I love peppermint season so much more than pumpkin season,” one Reddit user shared in a thread about the cookies’ return. “These are outstanding. I like to put them in the freezer and gnaw on them once frozen,” recommends another. As one Redditor warns: “You WILL become addicted to them and mourn when you can't find them anymore (until next year anyway!).” This year, Aldi has swapped its usual red box for a green one with holiday greenery illustrations, so you may need to look carefully to spot them. Once you do, be sure to snag a few boxes—they’re guaranteed to sell out fast! Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback! Tell us why! Other Submit
