Yankeetown was founded in 1923 by the Indiana politician and lawyer Armanis F. Knotts, who moved to the area because of his great love for hunting. Originally named for the founder, the present name comes from the fact the local mail carrier frequently and derisively directed visitors to the settlement he called "that Yankee town".
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 21.1 square miles (54.6km2), of which 7.6 square miles (19.8km2) is land and 13.4 square miles (34.8km2), or 63.75%, is water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 629 people, 309 households, and 194 families residing in the town. The population density was 80.4 people per square mile (31.1/km²). There were 472 housing units at an average density of 60.3 per square mile (23.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 96.82% White, 1.43% Native American, 0.79% Asian, and 0.95% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.64% of the population.

Camping and Fishing the Withlacoochee River - Yankeetown, Florida
We arrived in Yankeetown the night before and camped out at B's Marina. The plan was to go offshore to target sheepshead the next day. However, the weather forecast turned out to be wrong and the seas were 2-3 ft, a little too rough for the seadoo in freezing temps. We made the best of the situation and fished the Withlacoochee river instead and ended up catching my personal best sheepshead measuring 22 inches. We also played around with some rat reds and little mangrove snapper.

Yankeetown Florida end of the road Boat Ramp #drone
Took a short drive to the West coast of Florida where the end of the road boat ramp is located in Yankeetown. I was considering towing my boat out sometime to go fishing, but wanted to check it out first. This video of the boat ramp and the waterway around it was on a Saturday around 11 am.
The boar ramp is on the gulf of mexico and only 20 miles by water to Cedar Key Florida. After checking the boat ramp out I will be towing my boat over.

Yankeetown Glass House by Jack West
At a bend in the Withlacoochee River in Yankeetown, FL lies one of the great houses built in the style of the Sarasota School of Architecture. In 1953 Jack West completed the "Eugene Knotts Glass House" for the founder of the town in attempt to show off the area and attract residents. The glass house takes advantage of the beautiful light and nature of the area making it one of the most unique houses on the gulf coast. It was recently placed on the national historic register. A special thanks goes to John W. Smith for his narration and help making this video possible and also to the Sarasota Architectural Foundation for their vision and support.
