Here’s a 7 minute recap of our family vacation to Edisto Island, SC. A perfect quiet getaway for when you want to vacation during a pandemic. We LOVED the bike trail, the short walk to the beach from our rental and the wildlife everywhere! (Deer, sharks, crabs, raccoon, frogs). It was so nice to pretend life wasn’t so crazy for a week.

Edisto Beach... One of South Carolina's Best Kept Secrets!
Edisto Beach is located in the lower portion of South Carolina below Charleston. A "secret" beach frequented by locals, It is a bit off the beaten path but the beach is not nearly commercialized as some of the more well known ones, such as Myrtle Beach. Edisto Beach has a small town atmosphere. It has one grocery store, a gas station, several restaurants, a pizza joint and a few shops. The beach is wide and long and is known for shelling and its shark teeth! Edisto State park has camping and RV sites on the ocean and another called The Oaks which has not ocean front camping but is in "the oaks".

Edisto Beach State Park & Fripp Island - Deer Everywhere!
We had a trip planned for a couple months for Fripp Island and Shane just happened to have that Thursday off at the office, so we packed up and headed out early. We weren't sure where we were going to stay, but we figured we would find somewhere on the way! We got SUPER lucky and were able to snag spot 74 last minute at Edisto Beach State Park! Someone had cancelled there reservation and we got to enjoy the most beautiful sunset from our home for the night. The site was $70, which is really expensive for a campsite, but it was worth the views, close walk to the beach and a bathroom. The next morning we headed out early to meet up with my brother, Zack and his wife Taylor, to spend the next couple of days exploring Fripp.

SOUTH CAROLINA ISLAND LIVING 🏝 Beach, boating in Edisto Beach
South Carolina beach life at its best!! We took a little day trip to North Edisto Island where us locals gather to drink, play, relax and just getaway from the crowded beaches. That's truly the beautiful thing about this area. If you have a boat (or, even better, a friend with a boat) you can find your own little slice of deserted paradise. A quote and motto that we try to live by in our day to day: "Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, and drink the wild air." Are you living High Vibe ? If not, hopefully this video inspires you to.

Fripp is a private island and some of the owners on the island office "amenities" packages with their homes/condos. The amenities include the restaurants on the island. Our place did not include this, but was perfect for us. We cooked dinner at the place all nights except for one and ate at Johnson's Creek Tavern which is less than 10 minutes from the island and had great food and service. The closest grocery store and other restaurants are about 30minutes away, so we had all out meals packed and bought before we got to Fripp. There is a market for beer, liquor, snacks and they have a deli. The market is really expensive, so I would plan to bring everything with you.
I love seeing all the wildlife and deer were EVERYWHERE! The deer are very friendly since they are so used to all the people on the island. We even saw a bald eagle on Pritchard's Island. We had a blast and will be back to visit Fripp in the future.
