The World Ocean, world ocean, or global ocean (colloquially the sea or the ocean), is the interconnected system of Earth's oceanic (or marine) waters, and comprises the bulk of the hydrosphere, covering almost 71% of Earth's surface, with a total volume of 1.332 billion cubic kilometers (351 quintillionUS gallons).
Organization
The unity and continuity of the World Ocean, with relatively free interchange among its parts, is of fundamental importance to oceanography. It is divided into a number of principal oceanic areas that are delimited by the continents and various oceanographic features: these divisions are the Atlantic Ocean, Arctic Ocean (sometimes considered a sea of the Atlantic), Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean, and Southern Ocean (often reckoned instead as just the southern portions of the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans). In turn, oceanic waters are interspersed by many smaller seas, gulfs, and bays.
A global ocean has existed in one form or another on Earth for eons, and the notion dates back to classical antiquity (in the form of Oceanus). The contemporary concept of the World Ocean was coined in the early 20th century by the RussianoceanographerYuly Shokalsky to refer to what is basically a solitary, continuous ocean that covers and encircles most of Earth.
The Atlantic Ocean is the second largest of the world's oceanic divisions, following the Pacific Ocean. With a total area of about 106,400,000 square kilometres (41,100,000sqmi), it covers approximately 20 percent of the Earth's surface and about 29 percent of its water surface area. The first part of its name refers to Atlas of Greek mythology, making the Atlantic the "Sea of Atlas".
The oldest known mention of "Atlantic" is in The Histories of Herodotus around 450 BC (Hdt. 1.202.4): Atlantis thalassa (Greek: Ἀτλαντὶς θάλασσα; English: Sea of Atlas). The term Ethiopic Ocean, derived from Ethiopia, was applied to the southern Atlantic as late as the mid-19th century. Before Europeans discovered other oceans, their term "ocean" was synonymous with the waters beyond the Strait of Gibraltar that are now known as the Atlantic. The early Greeks believed this ocean to be a gigantic river encircling the world.
The Atlantic Ocean occupies an elongated, S-shaped basin extending longitudinally between Eurasia and Africa to the east, and the Americas to the west. As one component of the interconnected global ocean, it is connected in the north to the Arctic Ocean, to the Pacific Ocean in the southwest, the Indian Ocean in the southeast, and the Southern Ocean in the south (other definitions describe the Atlantic as extending southward to Antarctica). The equator subdivides it into the North Atlantic Ocean and South Atlantic Ocean.
Flaming Pie is the tenth solo studio album by Paul McCartney, first released in 1997. His first studio album in over four years, it was mostly recorded following McCartney's involvement in the highly successful Beatles Anthology project. The album was recorded in several locations over two years, 1995 and 1997, featuring two songs dating from 1992. The album featured several of McCartney's family members and friends, most notably McCartney's son, James McCartney. In Flaming Pie's liner notes, McCartney said: "[The Beatles Anthology] reminded me of The Beatles' standards and the standards that we reached with the songs. So in a way it was a refresher course that set the framework for this album."
Flaming Pie peaked at number two in both the UK and US and was certified gold. The album, which was well received by critics, also reached the top 20 in many other countries. From its release up to mid-2007, the album sold over 1.5 million copies.
Background
"Calico Skies", which Paul McCartney had written when Hurricane Bob had hit while McCartney was staying on Long Island in 1991, and "Great Day", which features backing vocal from his wife Linda McCartney, hailed from a 1992 session, recorded even before Off the Ground had come out. Starting from the mid-1990s for four years, McCartney was involved in The Beatles Anthology, a documentary on the history of the Beatles. The documentary was originally titled The Long and Winding Road, named after McCartney's song of the same name. During 1995, as the Anthology albums were starting to be released over a two-year period, EMI did not want McCartney to release a solo album in the meantime. McCartney said that he "was almost insulted at first" before then realising that "it would be silly to go out against yourself in the form of the Beatles. So I fell in with the idea and thought, 'Great, I don't even have to think about an album.'" McCartney was occupied with working on Standing Stone in the interim.
Atlantic Ocean is the Dutchtrance/electronic duo, comprising Lex van Coeverden and Rene van der Weyde.
The duo is most remembered for its hitsingle, "Waterfall". They entered the UK Singles Chart four times in the 1990s, the entries being "Waterfall", "Body in Motion", "Music is a Passion" and a remix of "Waterfall". Another single, "Cycle of Life", failed to chart and further releases of "Waterfall" were made, though either failed or were ineligible for the chart. The band released several EPs including Lorelei, Pegasus, Set You Free and Trance-Atlantis.
"Waterfall"
The duo's first and most successful track was "Waterfall". It was originally released as a single in 1993. However, the track is included in many Ministry of Soundcompilation albums. In the track's original single release, three versions of the song were included. These were a radio edit, a tranquil mix and an original 12" edition.
The single reached number 22 on the UK Singles Chart in February 1994. A remixed version achieved one better, peaking at 21 in November 1996.

SUMMARY:
- Pacific oceans have different density and chemical make-up, the level of salinity and other qualities. One can see by their color that they are far from being the same.
- Haloclines – borders between waters with different salinity – are the most spectacular, and this is what we see when the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans meet.
- Haloclines appear when water in one ocean or sea is at least 5 times saltier than in the other.
- Another important difference between the two oceans' water is the strength of molecules' connection, or surface tensile strength.
- Maybe they could gradually start mixing with time, but as the flows in them have opposite directions, they just don’t have time to do this.
- There are also thermoclines – borders between water of different temperatures, like the warm water of Gulf Stream and much colder North Atlantic Ocean.
- The North and Baltic Seas meet near the Danish city of Skagen. The water in them does not mix because of different density.
- The Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet at the Strait of Gibraltar and have a different density and salinity, so their water does not mix too.
- The Uruguay River and its afflux meet in Misiones province in Argentina. One of them is cleaned to be used in agriculture, and the other gets almost red because of loam during rainy seasons.
- Mosel and Rhein meet in Koblenz, Germany. Rheine has lighter water and Mosel – darker.
- Alaknanda and Bhagirathi Rivers meet in India. Alaknanda is dark and Bhagirathi is light.
- The Jialing and Yangtze Rivers meet in Chongqing, China.
The Jialing is clean and the Yangtze is brown.
- The water of the Chuya has an unusual cloudy white color here and looks dense and thick. Katun is clean and turquoise. Flowing into each other they form a single two-colored flow that does not mix for some time.
- The Rhone and Arve rivers flow into each other in Geneva, Switzerland. The Rhone is a pure river that flows out of the lake of Geneva, the Arve is cloudy as it gets its water from glaciers of the Chamonix valley.

When you look at the seas and oceans on the map you might think that they just flow into each other. It seems like there’s only one big ocean, and people just gave different names to its parts. Well, you’ll be amazed at how vivid the borders between them are!
The border between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans is like a line between 2 worlds. It looks as if the two oceans meet at an invisible wall which does not let them flow into each other and mix their waters. Why on Earth does it happen? We know for sure there is no invisible wall inside, and water is water. So what could interfere with its mixing?

Lyrics:
We’re One Global Ocean Broken Up Into 5
We cover Oceans Cover 71% of the Earth into this we’ll dive
Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic and Southern too
Are the names of the Oceans that cover your world in blue
I’m the Pacific Ocean
And the oldest ocean for what it’s worth
And I’m the largest and deepest
ocean basin on the planet Earth
I extend from the Arctic Ocean
that sits in the Earths North
to the Southern or Antarctic Ocean in the South or course
I’m bounded by the continents Asia and Australia in the West
And to my East, you see The Americas
This is where they rest
I’m Separated into two parts the North and South Pacific
By an imaginary line called the Equator
to be more specific
I’m the Atlantic Ocean the 2nd largest of the Earths oceans see
Over 41 Million Square Miles of Area I
guarantee
The Arctic Ocean’s to my North and the Southern Oceans to my South
The Americas to my West
and Europe and Africa to my East I tout
I’m split in two making the North and South Atlantic Ocean here
By the equator running through me where this line appeared
We’re one global ocean broken up into 5
We cover 71% of the Earth into this we’ll dive
Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic and Southern too
Are the names of the Oceans that cover your world in blue
I am the Indian Ocean
the third largest ocean in the world that's me
Covering about 28 Million Square Miles
of an area you see
I touch Africa to my West And the Southern Ocean to my South
Asia is to my North and Australia’s to my East no doubt
My names the Arctic Ocean
the smallest of the 5 you know
About 5.5 Million Square Miles
of the ocean I do show
I border the shorelines of North America, Eurasia too
I’m the most shallow of the worlds five major oceans it’s true
I’m the Southern Ocean
Also called the Antarctic Ocean though
7.8 Million Square Miles of Area my ocean flows
I surround Antarctica and I’m the newest Ocean on Earth
The year 2000 the IHO recognized me for what it’s worth
We’re one global ocean broken up into 5
We cover 71% of the Earth into this we’ll dive
Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic and Southern too
Are the names of the Oceans that cover your world in blue

What Lives in the Oceans: https://learnbright.org/lessons/science/what-lives-in-the-ocean/
The Oceans of the earth are vast…they are humongous! Over 72% of the earth is covered with water called Oceans and Seas
There are five major Oceans of the world, and although these Oceans are all connected, they each have a different name. They are; The Pacific Ocean…the Atlantic Ocean…the Indian Ocean…The Southern Ocean (also called the Antarctic Ocean) …and the Arctic Ocean.
Here are some specific facts about each ocean.
Pacific Ocean: Located between the continents of Asia, N./S. America & Australia
~The largest of the 5 oceans, covers 30% of the Earth’s surface.
~ The word Pacific means peaceful, but the ocean is not calm or peaceful.
~ Many volcanoes are located in the ocean: The “Ring of Fire”.
~ The deepest part is nearly 7 miles below the surface.
~ The Great Barrier Reef is located off the Australian coast.
Atlantic Ocean: Located between the continents America, Europe, and Africa
~ About half the size of the Pacific Ocean
~ Many sharks are found in the waters of the ocean.
~ Islands located in the Atlantic include the Bahamas and Greenland, which is the largest island on Earth.
~ The word Atlantic means “Sea of Atlas”.
~ Cities on the Atlantic Ocean include Miami and London.
Indian Ocean: Located between Africa, Australia and parts of Asia
~ Largest breeding grounds of the world for humpback whales.
~ The Suez Canal in Egypt is a waterway in the ocean.
~ Cities along the ocean include Mumbai, India; Perth, Australia;
and Singapore.
~ Many endangered species live here such as turtles and seals.
Arctic Ocean: Located around the North Pole across the Arctic circle
~ Home to many of the Polar Bears of the world.
~ Smallest ocean and most shallow, but is the coldest.
~ Sometimes called the “frozen ocean”, almost completely covered in ice during the winter,
~ There are more fish species here than anywhere else in the world.
Southern Ocean: Located around the South Pole across the Antarctic circle
~ Home to the Emperor Penguins and Wandering Albatrosses
~ Sometimes it is also called the Antarctic Ocean
~ Icebergs are found throughout the Southern Ocean
~ No people live along the coast of the ocean

When you look at the seas and oceans on the map you might think that they just flow into each other. It seems like there’s only one big ocean, and people just gave different names to its parts. Well, you’ll be amazed at how vivid the borders between them are!
The border between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans is like a line between 2 worlds. It looks as if the two oceans meet at an invisible wall which does not let them flow into each other and mix their waters. Why on Earth does it happen? We know for sure there is no invisible wall inside, and water is water. So what could interfere with its mixing?

Lyrics:
We’re One Global Ocean Broken Up Into 5
We cover Oceans Cover 71% of the Earth into this we’ll dive
Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic and Southern too
Are the names of the Oceans that cover your world in blue
I’m the Pacific Ocean
And the oldest ocean for what it’s worth
And I’m the largest and deepest
ocean basin on the planet Earth
I extend from the Arctic Ocean
that sits in the Earths North
to the Southern or Antarctic Ocean in the South or course
I’m bounded by the continents Asia and Australia in the West
And to my East, you see The Americas
This is where they rest
I’m Separated into two parts the North and South Pacific
By an imaginary line called the Equator
to be more specific
I’m the Atlantic Ocean the 2nd largest of the Earths oceans see
Over 41 Million Square Miles of Area I
guarantee
The Arctic Ocean’s to my North and the Southern Oceans to my South
The Americas to my West
and Europe and Africa to my East I tout
I’m split in two making the North and South Atlantic Ocean here
By the equator running through me where this line appeared
We’re one global ocean broken up into 5
We cover 71% of the Earth into this we’ll dive
Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic and Southern too
Are the names of the Oceans that cover your world in blue
I am the Indian Ocean
the third largest ocean in the world that's me
Covering about 28 Million Square Miles
of an area you see
I touch Africa to my West And the Southern Ocean to my South
Asia is to my North and Australia’s to my East no doubt
My names the Arctic Ocean
the smallest of the 5 you know
About 5.5 Million Square Miles
of the ocean I do show
I border the shorelines of North America, Eurasia too
I’m the most shallow of the worlds five major oceans it’s true
I’m the Southern Ocean
Also called the Antarctic Ocean though
7.8 Million Square Miles of Area my ocean flows
I surround Antarctica and I’m the newest Ocean on Earth
The year 2000 the IHO recognized me for what it’s worth
We’re one global ocean broken up into 5
We cover 71% of the Earth into this we’ll dive
Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic and Southern too
Are the names of the Oceans that cover your world in blue
