Thomas began his own practice at Leamington Spa in 1831 where he designed many buildings, but in 1837 went bankrupt. In 1843, during a depression in the British building industry, he emigrated to Canada with his wife and 10 children to Toronto, where his career flourished. He designed some of the finest Decorated Gothic Revival architecture in Ontario.
He was also Toronto's city engineer when John George Howard made a trip to England in 1853. He died in Toronto, aged about sixty. Two of his sons, William Tutin Thomas and Cyrus Pole Thomas, also became architects.
Thomas is sometimes inaccurately credited with the architectural design and the elaborate stone carvings on Victoria Hall in Cobourg, Ontario. In fact, Kivas Tully designed the building and the fine sandstone carvings are the work of master stonecarver Charles Thomas Thomas (1820–1867).
William Thomas (c 1630 - 1686) was an English lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1660.
Thomas was the son of George Thomas of Savernake, Wiltshire. He was a student at Gray's Inn in 1648 and was called to the bar in 1652. In 1656, he succeeded to the estates of his father. He was J.P. for Dorset from March 1660 until his death. In April 1660, Thomas was elected Member of Parliament for Ludgershall. After a double return he took his seat in the Convention Parliament on 23 May. He was very active in parliament making 26 recorded speeches and serving on 33 committees of which he took the chair in three. He expressed strong Anglican and Royalist views. He was proposed as one of the Knights of the Royal Oak, with an income of £600 p.a. He was commissioner for assessment for Dorset from August 1660 to 1674 and for Wiltshire from August 1660 to 1661. He became an ancient of his Inn in 1667 and an associate bencher in 1676.
Thomas died at the age of about 55 shortly before 6 September 1686.
After playing in the 2006 NCAA Men's Division I Ice Hockey Tournament, Thomas signed his first professional contract on March 26, 2006 with the Phoenix Coyotes a few days after the Mavericks were eliminated from the tournament in the first round. Thomas played 47 games for the Phoenix Coyotes' AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage, in the 2006–07 season. He led the Rampage in goals in the 2007–08 season until he was also called up to the NHL for 24 games with the Coyotes during the same year. After the season Thomas signed a one-year contract with the Penguins on July 15, 2008. William scored his 1st goal with the Penguins, his hometown team, against the San Jose Sharks on February 11, 2009.
