William T. O'Higgins
William T. O'Higgins (1829-1874) was a Catholic chaplain in the American Civil War. He served in the 10th Ohio Infantry.
Born William T. Higgins in 1829 near the border of counties Leitrim and Longford, Ireland, he later took the last name of his uncle (Bishop William O’Higgins (1793-1853)), styled O'Higgins, after the royals. After studying in Maynooth at the Royal College of St. Patrick’s, he was sent to British Guiana in the West Indies. He arrived in Philadelphia on May 23, 1857 and joined the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. From 1860 to 1861, he was the assistant to Rev. Richard Gilmour at St. Patrick's in Cincinnati.
After difficulties in Cincinnati, William wrote the Archbishop, John B. Purcell, requesting a position as chaplain; this "remov[ed him from a thorny personnel situation by responding to an obvious wartime need".
He was commissioned as chaplain of the 10th Ohio Infantry on June 3, 1861, in which he served until June 17, 1864.
Following the war, he returned to Cincinnati as a pastor and chaplain, but later left for the Diocese of Little Rock, Arkansas, where he served at the Cathedral of St. Andrew, with a colleague from Ohio, Bishop Edward Fitzgerald. By 1871, he had returned to Ohio, this time to Cleveland, where he taught at St. Mary's Seminary for one term and subsequently served 6 months as pastor of St. Augustine's Church, Cleveland. In 1973 he returned to County Leitrim, Ireland, where he died November 4, 1874.

O'Higgins Region
The VI Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins Region (Spanish: VI Región del Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins), often shortened to O'Higgins Region, is one of Chile's 15 first order administrative divisions. It is subdivided into three provinces. It is named in honour of Bernardo O'Higgins Riquelme, one of Chile's founding fathers.
The Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins Region is bordered to the west by the Pacific Ocean, to the east by the Republic of Argentina, to the north by the Valparaíso and Santiago Metropolitan Regions, and to the south by the Maule Region. It extends approximately between the parallels of 33°51’ and 35°01’ south latitude, and between the meridian of 70°02’ west longitude and the Pacific Ocean.
The capital and largest city of the region is Rancagua. The second major town is San Fernando.
Geography
In pre-Quaternary times extensive Nothofagus forests covered much of Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins Region.
The Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins Region is part of the very restricted range of the endangered Chilean Wine Palm, Jubaea chilensis; in prehistoric times this Chilean endemic tree had a significantly larger range.

Get your popcorn, sit back and enjoy, Family! My grandpa, George "Shorty" Higgins delivered heating oil and ran the DX station in Webb, Iowa. The little guy wearing the DX shirt is my Uncle Roger. The baby in the blue suit and wagon/stroller is my Uncle Charles. The family having drinks on the patio is my mother, Sara, who is serving the drinks. Aunt Mary, Uncle Chuck and Uncle Roger, Grandma and Grandpa all make appearances before heading out with the picnic to the horse show. 13) Ambrosio Bernardo O’Higgins (1720-1801) was an Irish-Spanish colonial administrator who served as capital general of Chile and was the Viceroy of Peru, his son Bernardo O’Higgins was a Chilean independence leader. In 1788, he obtained a certificate of descent and the right to use the Ballynary Arms with due difference from Ulster King of Arms (Kingdom of Ireland) and subsequently received a grant from the Cronista Rey de Armas (Kingdom of Spain). His Coat of Arms was then adopted in 1796 as the official emblem of the city of Osorno in Chile after which he had been ennobled as Marquis of Osorno.

In 1788, he obtained a certificate of descent and the right to use the Ballynary Arms with due difference from Ulster King of Arms (Kingdom of Ireland) and subsequently received a grant from the Cronista Rey de Armas (Kingdom of Spain). His Coat of Arms was then adopted in 1796 as the official emblem of the city of Osorno in Chile after which he had been ennobled as Marquis of Osorno.

My grandpa, George "Shorty" Higgins delivered heating oil and ran the DX station in Webb, Iowa. The little guy wearing the DX shirt is my Uncle Roger. The baby in the blue suit and wagon/stroller is my Uncle Charles.
The family having drinks on the patio is my mother, Sara, who is serving the drinks. Aunt Mary, Uncle Chuck and Uncle Roger, Grandma and Grandpa all make appearances before heading out with the picnic to the horse show.
Credits go to Ralph Higgins for all the filming on his 35mm camera.

REVIEW
This is a group at the top of their game! They played us music largely from
“Pluto”, released early last year and this was the 33 rd gig of a 45-gig tour.
Not only are they superlative musicians individually but you can imagine how
well integrated they have become and how their performances have
developed during a tour of this length. They’re clearly loving every minute of it
and they played with a joyousness that was responded to by a large and very
enthusiastic audience which in turn, I think, enhanced their enjoyment.
They began with the album’s title tune, Pluto - written by Dave - an upbeat
number with Rod demonstrating his intention to prod and prompt to great
effect throughout the evening. Dave’s excellent solo was followed by Rob’s
typically fleet-fingered one, his guitar singing to us with a beautiful tone that
he aims, in his own words, to be “clean and liquid”. His formidable technique is
added to by judicious use of reverb, delay and echo.
The second number was a bossa nova written by Rob as a tribute to Stan Getz
and called Gyetski – Stan’s original surname. Rob’s solo was flowingly melodic;
I wrote “like quicksilver” in my notes. Dave’s calming solo led to a very nimble
one from Jim whose style is often as impressively fleet-fingered as Rob’s.
Dave’s Vague Recollection followed; this number showed huge originality in
their interplay, supported by Misha’s deep and warm-toned bass - his skilled
playing making a major contribution to the evening - and ended with a long,
dramatic drum solo from Rod. Round Midnight led to Grant Green’s Jean de
Fleur played like it was fun with long solos including a particularly fine one
from Jim and ending in a form of “controlled chaos”!
After the interval, they played Dave’s One For The Six, one of only two blues
numbers on their set list, which had a real bebop feel to it and included a
complex solo from Jim, an imaginative bass solo by Misha which earned
prolonged applause and another excellently constructed solo from Rod. Rob’s
South Wind continued to show the terrific level of understanding within the
group and Randy Weston’s Little Niles contained a long, brilliant solo from
Dave.
Coltrane’s Naima was a Rob “special” with an extended demonstration of his
playing, in almost ethereal style, followed by an appropriately lyrical solo by
Dave. We were back to the blues again with Harold Mabern’s Rakin’ ‘n Scrapin’
and an amazing piano solo from Jim, totally in the blues tradition with strong
encouragement from Rod and then a “tour de force” solo from Rob before this
“rockin’” number ended. The audience continued to applaud until Dave and
Rob brought the band back on stage for an encore, which was Coltrane’s
Resolution.
This was a wonderful night of vibrant and uplifting playing by a quintet of
individual and collective brilliance and the audience knew they had been
treated to something very special.

The mistake is often made of confusing this name with the name of Keegan, that is, in assuming that it comes from the same given name, Eoghan, through the use of the prefix “mac.” The argument being that there is a little real difference between MacKegan and MacHiggin. This argument, however, loses sight of the fact that both of these forms are but English corruptions of the Irish surnames, which are traceable definitely to different sources both by means of spelling and the historical-genealogical records in the Irish language.
The Irish form of the surname is “O’h-Uigin,” or “MacUigan,” the “h” being a necessary insertion after “O” to make it pronounceable. The family or clan name comes from the given name of “Uigin,” which means “knowledge.”
The form Higginson would appear to be English, but there are many cases on record where it is simply an Anglicized version of the Irish family name. In Ireland this family name is most common in Westmeath and Galway.

In 1788, he obtained a certificate of descent and the right to use the Ballynary Arms with due difference from Ulster King of Arms (Kingdom of Ireland) and subsequently received a grant from the Cronista Rey de Armas (Kingdom of Spain). His Coat of Arms was then adopted in 1796 as the official emblem of the city of Osorno in Chile after which he had been ennobled as Marquis of Osorno.

My grandpa, George "Shorty" Higgins delivered heating oil and ran the DX station in Webb, Iowa. The little guy wearing the DX shirt is my Uncle Roger. The baby in the blue suit and wagon/stroller is my Uncle Charles.
The family having drinks on the patio is my mother, Sara, who is serving the drinks. Aunt Mary, Uncle Chuck and Uncle Roger, Grandma and Grandpa all make appearances before heading out with the picnic to the horse show.
Credits go to Ralph Higgins for all the filming on his 35mm camera.

REVIEW
This is a group at the top of their game! They played us music largely from
“Pluto”, released early last year and this was the 33 rd gig of a 45-gig tour.
Not only are they superlative musicians individually but you can imagine how
well integrated they have become and how their performances have
developed during a tour of this length. They’re clearly loving every minute of it
and they played with a joyousness that was responded to by a large and very
enthusiastic audience which in turn, I think, enhanced their enjoyment.
They began with the album’s title tune, Pluto - written by Dave - an upbeat
number with Rod demonstrating his intention to prod and prompt to great
effect throughout the evening. Dave’s excellent solo was followed by Rob’s
typically fleet-fingered one, his guitar singing to us with a beautiful tone that
he aims, in his own words, to be “clean and liquid”. His formidable technique is
added to by judicious use of reverb, delay and echo.
The second number was a bossa nova written by Rob as a tribute to Stan Getz
and called Gyetski – Stan’s original surname. Rob’s solo was flowingly melodic;
I wrote “like quicksilver” in my notes. Dave’s calming solo led to a very nimble
one from Jim whose style is often as impressively fleet-fingered as Rob’s.
Dave’s Vague Recollection followed; this number showed huge originality in
their interplay, supported by Misha’s deep and warm-toned bass - his skilled
playing making a major contribution to the evening - and ended with a long,
dramatic drum solo from Rod. Round Midnight led to Grant Green’s Jean de
Fleur played like it was fun with long solos including a particularly fine one
from Jim and ending in a form of “controlled chaos”!
After the interval, they played Dave’s One For The Six, one of only two blues
numbers on their set list, which had a real bebop feel to it and included a
complex solo from Jim, an imaginative bass solo by Misha which earned
prolonged applause and another excellently constructed solo from Rod. Rob’s
South Wind continued to show the terrific level of understanding within the
group and Randy Weston’s Little Niles contained a long, brilliant solo from
Dave.
Coltrane’s Naima was a Rob “special” with an extended demonstration of his
playing, in almost ethereal style, followed by an appropriately lyrical solo by
Dave. We were back to the blues again with Harold Mabern’s Rakin’ ‘n Scrapin’
and an amazing piano solo from Jim, totally in the blues tradition with strong
encouragement from Rod and then a “tour de force” solo from Rob before this
“rockin’” number ended. The audience continued to applaud until Dave and
Rob brought the band back on stage for an encore, which was Coltrane’s
Resolution.
This was a wonderful night of vibrant and uplifting playing by a quintet of
individual and collective brilliance and the audience knew they had been
treated to something very special.

William T. O'Higgins
William T. O'Higgins (1829-1874) was a Catholic chaplain in the American Civil War. He served in the 10th Ohio Infantry.
Born William T. Higgins in 1829 near the border of counties Leitrim and Longford, Ireland, he later took the last name of his uncle (Bishop William O’Higgins (1793-1853)), styled O'Higgins, after the royals. After studying in Maynooth at the Royal College of St. Patrick’s, he was sent to British Guiana in the West Indies. He arrived in Philadelphia on May 23, 1857 and joined the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. From 1860 to 1861, he was the assistant to Rev. Richard Gilmour at St. Patrick's in Cincinnati.
After difficulties in Cincinnati, William wrote the Archbishop, John B. Purcell, requesting a position as chaplain; this "remov[ed him from a thorny personnel situation by responding to an obvious wartime need".
He was commissioned as chaplain of the 10th Ohio Infantry on June 3, 1861, in which he served until June 17, 1864.
Following the war, he returned to Cincinnati as a pastor and chaplain, but later left for the Diocese of Little Rock, Arkansas, where he served at the Cathedral of St. Andrew, with a colleague from Ohio, Bishop Edward Fitzgerald. By 1871, he had returned to Ohio, this time to Cleveland, where he taught at St. Mary's Seminary for one term and subsequently served 6 months as pastor of St. Augustine's Church, Cleveland. In 1973 he returned to County Leitrim, Ireland, where he died November 4, 1874.
