William Henry Harrison: Hey, What Happened? (1841)
William Henry Harrison, or good old Tippecanoe, had the shortest term of any president so far. That's because he died just one month into his term. Being the first president to die in office, it brought up the issue of what to do when that happens, and it was decided that the vice president should take over. But there are a couple other tidbits to discuss regarding Tippecanoe, so let's take a look.

Lyrics:
William Henry was born on a plantation called Berkeley
Tuesday, February 9th, 1773
He attended a small college in VA for three years
Then, compelled to embark on a military career
He served as a lieutenant, and in 1794
Received a commendation for his part in the Indian War
William met Anna in Ohio in ‘95
They soon eloped, though her father wondered how they’d survive
10 children they had ‘tween ‘96 and 1814
While William resigned to pursue the political scene
He was Territorial Secretary, governor and a rep
a state and US Senator, an ambassador, his next step
Chorus
William Henry Harrison, the ninth US president
Only 31 days, he served, but gave his life to government
He negotiated treaties with tribes to extend American land
Chief Tecumseh balked, but the Battle of Tippecanoe ended his stand
William served in the War of 1812 in charge of the infantry
He won at the crucial Battle of the Thames, then resigned from the army
William spent some time at home, then, was called upon to run
For President, a national hero, in ‘40, he won
His plan as president was to reverse prior policies
of Jackson’s and Van Buren’s, and leave to states, slavery
But, William caught a cold, which turned into pneumonia fast
On April 4th, 1841, William Henry passed
His legacy was the treaties signed for the land of the Indians
Which helped grow the United States, and his grandson, Benjamin

In this video:
It was a wet, cold, wind overcast day on March 4, 1841. This didn’t matter to the thousands that had come out to the nation’s capital to see the president-elect William Henry Harrison be sworn into office as the 9th President of the United States. With people lining the streets all the way to the Capitol, it was described by John Quincy Adams as the largest crowd the city had ever seen and, by a historian later, as the most raucous celebration since George Washington’s 1789 inauguration. Despite his boring style and advanced age, Harrison’s military acumen while battling Indians in order to open western settlements earlier in the century had made “Old Tippecanoe” a populist candidate very much in line with the Andrew Jackson.
