Uncovering the Beauty of St. Mawes
Experience the charm of St. Mawes with a serene waterside stroll. Discover the beauty of Cornwall with this picturesque coastal walk and stunning vistas. There are unique cottages at every turn, some built in the 17th century and with thatched rooves.
St Mawes was once a busy fishing port, but the trade declined during the 20th century and the village now serves as a popular tourist location, with many properties functioning as holiday accommodation. We took a walk along the front to St. Mawes Castle.

St Mawes, a captivating village perched on the tip of Cornwall's Roseland Peninsula, offers a delightful blend of crystal-clear waters, charming streets, and a rich maritime heritage. Here's why you should consider St Mawes for your next trip:
St Mawes Harbour is the heart of the village. Take a leisurely stroll along the harbor front, admire the colorful fishing boats moored in the water, and breathe in the fresh sea air. Perhaps you'll even spot some playful seals basking on the rocks or yachts gliding across the bay.
While St Mawes itself doesn't have a large beach, several beautiful beaches are located a short distance away. Sheltered Carne Beach offers golden sands and calm waters, perfect for families with young children. Porthpean Beach boasts a wider stretch of golden sand and gentle waves, ideal for swimming and sunbathing.
St Mawes Castle, a 16th-century artillery fort, stands guard over the harbor entrance. Explore the castle and learn about its role in defending Cornwall from invasion. Take a boat trip around the castle for stunning views of the coastline.
Lace up your walking shoes and embark on a scenic coastal walk along the South West Coast Path. The path offers breathtaking views of the coastline, with hidden coves, dramatic cliffs, and opportunities to spot wildlife. Explore sections in either direction, towards Portscatho or towards Falmouth.
While St Mawes itself might be a compact village, the surrounding Roseland Peninsula offers a wealth of experiences:
Explore the charming village of St Just in Roseland, nestled just two miles inland from St Mawes. Visit the beautiful 13th-century church with its gardens nestled beside a peaceful tidal creek.
Venture further afield to explore the Roseland Peninsula, designated for its outstanding natural beauty. Discover charming villages, hidden coves, stunning scenery, and a variety of wildlife.
Take a day trip to the vibrant port town of Falmouth. Explore the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, delve into maritime history at Pendennis Castle, or wander the cobbled streets lined with shops and restaurants.
Catch the King Harry Ferry across the Carrick Roads for a scenic journey. Explore the town of Truro, Cornwall's capital, or visit the Trelissick Gardens, boasting stunning views and a Victorian country house.
Savour fresh seafood at the harborside restaurants, indulge in traditional Cornish pasties, or treat yourself to a cream tea at a charming cafe. St Mawes offers a variety of culinary options to tantalize your taste buds.

Come spend a night with me at The Hotel Tresanton in St Mawes, Cornwall.
It is part of the Polizzi collection which is owned by famed interior designer and hotelier Olga Polizzi. A night starts from £250pn incl breakfast.
I also take the boat from St Mawes to Falmouth which is a 20min journey.
A return trip is around £13pp.
Unfortunately I lost a lot of the footage whilst I was on my trip so I've not been able to put together a comprehensive video of my stay and visit to St Mawes but thought I'd upload what I had,
Please like and subscribe for more hotel reviews.

The side of Cornwall, UK that tourists don’t see - 8 Worst Places
We visited Cornwall next on our mission to dig out the worst Turdtowns in the UK. This trip was a bit of an eye opener to say the least. Who would have thought such places existed in the tourist capital of England! Cornwall is known for its pristine beaches and lovely countryside. St Ives is in the news a lot for being the ultimate place to say. It in the middle of this big old county there’s some former mining towns that are suffering and worthy of being called the Cornish Turdtowns!

Cornwall: A Celtic Nation Trapped in England | Cornish Language, Culture & Identity
Cornwall, or Kernow in the Cornish language (Kernowek), is a Celtic nation in southwest England. It’s now an English county, but was once an independent Cornish Kingdom. Cornwall has maintained a distinct identity for centuries, and even its own language. Today, 400-500 people speak fluent Cornish, up from 4-5 following the Cornish language revival. I travelled to Truro, Cornwall’s capital, to meet Cornish locals and find out what makes Cornwall unique, aside from the Cornish pasty, of course.

I spoke with a councillor for Mebyon Kernow, a Cornish nationalist political party, campaigners for Kernow Matters to Us (KMTU), fluent Cornish speakers, and someone from the Cornish Language Fellowship (Kowethas an Yeth Kernewek).
Cornwall lost its independence in 838, and has since been absorbed into the UK. It is separated from Devon, it’s neighbouring county, by the Tamar river, one of the oldest geopolitical boundaries in the world. The Cornish are ethnically and culturally distinct from the English, but as it is so culturally underrepresented in the media, many people in the rest of the UK don’t even know that a Cornish language exists. UNESCO changed the classification of Cornish from “extinct” to “critically endangered” in 2009, but the number of Cornish speakers is growing. Cornish is a Brythonic Celtic language (also known as a P-Celtic language, as opposed to Q-Celtic). There are several Celtic languages, but only two others exist in this category with Cornish; Welsh and Breton.
Since Cornwall is part of England, which in turn is part of the UK, Cornwall is a country inside a country, inside a country. It is one of the 6 Celtic nations: Cornwall, Wales, Scotland, the Isle of Man, Ireland, and Brittany in Northwestern France. There’s also debate over whether Galicia and Asturias in Northern Spain are Celtic nations as well, which would bring the total to 8. The Cornish are decendents of the Britons (aka Celtic Britons or Ancient Britons), who remained unconquered by the Saxons or the Normans, and even allied with some invaders of what is now England at times.
