"Prince" Joe Henry (October 4, 1930 – January 2, 2009) was an American baseball player. He played for several Negro League teams in the 1950s.
Life and sports
Henry was born and raised in Brooklyn, Illinois, where he played softball as a youngster. He was discovered by catcher Josh Johnson, who encouraged him to try baseball. Goose Curry scouted him to play in the Negro Leagues, starting him off in a Mississippi baseball school. He played for three years with the Memphis Red Sox, then signed a minor league contract, playing in 1952 in the Mississippi–Ohio Valley League for Canton and in 1953 for Mount Vernon. During these years he sustained injuries that prevented him from playing further in the minors. He returned to the Negro Leagues in 1955-56 with the Indianapolis Clowns, but did not play for most of 1957 until he was convinced to return and play with the Detroit Stars. In 1958 he was selected as an All-Star for the East-West All Star Game. His last year in the Negro Leagues was 1959.

Joe Henry - Stars
I first heard this in the show Six Feet Under. I loved this song as it played in the ending and end credits, so I went online to see if there was anywhere I could listen to it. No luck. I enevtually bought it and made this video to share this wonderful song with you all. If you enjoy this song, please bcheck out Joe Henry's music and seriously consider buying some of his CDs and such.

Joe Henry - "You Are My Sunshine" | Fretboard Journal
The latest installment of the Fretboard Journal's "You Are My Sunshine" project features singer-songwriter/producer Joe Henry.
Back at the start of 2018, Bryan Sutton inspired us to start a unique video project: Ask the musicians who come through the Fretboard Journal to give us their take on the same tune. We locked into “You Are My Sunshine” as the song of choice and have been busy filming (and editing) over a dozen interpretations (and counting) ever since, featuring artists like Bill Frisell, Noam Pikelny, Joan Shelley, David Grisman and others.
Joe Henry showed up at the office loaded for bear: Not only had he come up with an aching, bluesy arrangement of the song, he dug deep and found all the lyrics, and he shared a fascinating bit of insight, as is his wont (you'll have to watch...

God Only Knows (Joe Henry cover)
My third Joe Henry song, a favorite from "Civilians." I played this one as faithfully as I could, except on electric piano instead of piano, and with no bass or drums. God only knows that I mean well.

Joe Henry - "Civil War" | Fretboard Journal
Joe Henry performs "Civil War" at the Fretboard Journal magazine offices.
"Civil War" was originally found on Henry's 2007 album, 'Civilians.' Joan Baez ended up covering it on her 2018 album, 'Whistle Down the Wind,' which was produced by Henry.
On this tune, Henry is playing his '30s 14-fret Gibson L-00. Henry was featured in the Fretboard Journal #26 discussing this guitar (and his other '30s Gibsons). He also penned a feature story in the FJ on pedal steel guitar whiz Greg Leisz (Fretboard Journal #33) and appeared at our first-ever Fretboard Summit.

Life takes root in the deepest, dark ground Where bones, blood and honor have been trampled down And beaten like ponies and driven to town When reason is traded for rhyme Your sailor is my lawyer Your seamstress suits my king But you are the mouth of the river
