Life and sports
Henry was born and raised in Brooklyn, Illinois, where he played softball as a youngster. He was discovered by catcher Josh Johnson, who encouraged him to try baseball. Goose Curry scouted him to play in the Negro Leagues, starting him off in a Mississippi baseball school. He played for three years with the Memphis Red Sox, then signed a minor league contract, playing in 1952 in the Mississippi–Ohio Valley League for Canton and in 1953 for Mount Vernon. During these years he sustained injuries that prevented him from playing further in the minors. He returned to the Negro Leagues in 1955-56 with the Indianapolis Clowns, but did not play for most of 1957 until he was convinced to return and play with the Detroit Stars. In 1958 he was selected as an All-Star for the East-West All Star Game. His last year in the Negro Leagues was 1959.
The Most Expensive Loudspeaker in the World - The SIREN in Platinum with Diamonds US$10 Million
Metaxas SIREN - Sculpture, Loudspeaker or both?
With over 40 years of playback and 25 years of concert recording experience, Kostas Metaxas has once again subverted what is or isn't possible in the aesthetic and state of the art in loudspeaker design.
Once Metaxas perfected the art of CNC machining organic shapes with amplifiers, it opened up similar possibilities with speakers.
CNC allows the sculpting of a shape with incredible rigidity, in a much smaller form factor than is possible with other materials. At the same time it minimizes front baffle diffraction whilst maximizing internal volume for an ideal and extended bass response.

The Sirens - very rare and very beautiful.
With more than a passing reference to Homer's Odyssey, the apt metaphor is testimony to the sheer musicality and realism that allows this potent 3-way system, CNC carved from a block of solid aluminium [or titanium] to engage and captivate it's audience with its sound and to invigorate the mind with it's extreme sculptural aesthetic.
At home in the most demanding recording studios, concert hall monitoring booths or even the Museum of Modern Art, the SIRENS are a radical departure from the original concept of a 3-way box speaker developed early last century. It can be offered in a choice of aluminium anodised, automotive metallic paints, connolly leather or even gold-leaf finishes.
Using ideas borrowed from Neumann TLM 50 and M150 microphones, [over 300+ concert recordings with Stellavox/Neumann : http://metaxas.com/recordings.html ] the SIREN embeds the Accuton drivers into spheres mounted onto an organic "time-aligned" sculpture. Despite the unique and unusual shape, the design is a seriously engineered, no-compromise loudspeaker with emphasis on absolute sound quality.
Accuton ultra-low colouration ceramic drivers are used in some of the most expensive systems currently available, but it's only when you marry them to a curvacious, stiff, inert massive machined "body" that you can really hear - and probably for the first time appreciate, their sheer neutrality and incredible 3-dimensional spatial rendition of a concert performance.
FUTURE PROOF. In a true "bespoke" manner, the actual configuration of drivers can be chosen, Since there are different "levels" of Accuton ceramic drivers , up to and including their ultra-expensive "diamond" tweeter, the customer has a choice of which tweeter, midrange and 8" woofer they would prefer to use now, or in the future.
VIDEO: The final version currently being CNC machined in 14 pieces [pair]...almost 8 weeks of 24-hours-day PER SPEAKER of the most intricate, "organic" machining EVER done for a speaker - or for that matter, any piece of hi fi equipment. This is really "Art in the service of Music"
In Titanium USD$ 800,000, In Aluminium USD$130,000, In Platinum USD$2,500,000 , Platinum with Diamonds USD$10million.
Only 3 pairs can be produced per year. Weight ~ 150 kg per speaker.

Life takes root in the deepest, dark ground Where bones, blood and honor have been trampled down And beaten like ponies and driven to town When reason is traded for rhyme Your sailor is my lawyer Your seamstress suits my king But you are the mouth of the river
