Reishi Mushroom Disambiguation: Are Ganoderma Curtisii and Zonatum True Reishi or False Reishi?
Ganoderma curtisii and Reishi mushroom (traditional Chinese: 靈芝; pinyin: língzhī; Japanese: 霊芝; rōmaji: reishi)
Ganoderma curtisii is a saprobic polypore that can be found in North America east of the Rockies from spring through fall. It is primarily distributed in the Southeastern United States. Here in Florida I find them all twelve months of the year. G. curtisii can be found growing on decaying hardwoods alone or in groups. Occasionally they grow from the wounds of injured living trees. I usually find them on large fallen branches of dead oak trees. The flesh on the fruiting bodies is hard and they are not very dense. When young the caps are often white, yellow, and orange. As they mature they turn various shades of red and brown.
Ganoderma curtisii was originally established as Poly...

Why is Whistler Bike Park such a big freaking deal?
In a recent poll, it seems that 78% of you have never been to a lift access bike park like Whistler, which is actually pretty unsurprising. Some of these places are not easy to get to, and some of you aren't even that interested in downhill. Nevertheless, "Whistler" pops up a lot in MTB news as well as YouTube, and most of this content presumes you have certain knowledge about the place.
Some of you may feel that you have "stupid" questions about it, but I feel that no such questions exist.
This video is meant to serve as an introduction to Whistler so that other videos are easier to understand. If this upload isn't up to normal standards, it's because I produced it on location.

Daedalus
This article is about the mythological character. For other uses see Daedalus (disambiguation).
In Greek mythology, Daedalus (/ˈdɛdələs ˈdiːdələs/; Ancient Greek: Δαίδαλος Daidalos, perhaps related to δαιδάλλω "to work artfully"; Latin: Daedalus; Etruscan: Taitale) was a skillful craftsman and artist. He is the father of Icarus, the uncle of Perdix and possibly also the father of Iapyx although this is unclear.

Ganoderma curtisii was originally established as Polyporus curtisii in 1849 by Miles Berkeley. Petter Adolf Karsten identified the genus Ganoderma in 1881 and William Alphonso Murrill transferred it to the genus Ganoderma in 1908. The name Ganoderma derives from the Greek ganos γανος 'brightness; sheen', hence 'shining' and derma δερμα 'skin'. The specific epithet lucidum is Latin for 'shining'.
Reishi 霊芝 is a Sino-Japanese loan word from lingzhi. The modern Japanese kanji 霊 is the shinjitai 'new character form' for the kyūjitai 'old character form' 靈. Reishi synonyms divide between Sino-Japanese borrowings and native Japanese coinages. Sinitic loanwords include literary terms such as zuisō 瑞草 (from ruicao) 'auspicious plant' and sensō 仙草 (from xiaocao) 'immortality plant'. A common native Japanese name is mannentake 万年茸 '10,000 year mushroom'. The Japanese writing system uses shi or shiba 芝 for 'grass; lawn; turf' and take or kinoko 茸 for 'mushroom' (e.g., shiitake). Other Japanese terms for reishi include kadodetake 門出茸 'departure mushroom', hijiridake 聖茸 'sage mushroom', and magoshakushi 孫杓子 'grandchild ladle'.
Reishi mushrooms have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for over 2,000 years. The Chinese term lingzhi 靈芝 was first recorded during the Eastern Han dynasty (25–220 CE). Reishi is listed under the name Lingzhi in the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia and Therapeutic Compendium.
Historically the common name Reishi has been applied to several species of Ganoderma including G. lingzhi, G. lucidum, G. Oregonense, G. tsugae, G. sessile, and G. curtisii. For many years, these mushrooms were all classified as Ganoderma lucidum. In modern times it was discovered that these fungi are different species. The scientific name G. lucidum applies to the species found in Europe. The name G. lingzhi applies to the species found in Asia. G. tsugae, G. sessile, and G. curtisii are what I typically find here in Florida.
Which species the term reishi applies to is still a subject of debate. According to Mycologist Paul Stamets ganoderma such as G. lucidum and G. curtisii are both members of a tight-knit species complex (Mycelium Running, 2005). The opposing perspective is that the term reishi should only be applied to G. lingzhi that grows wild in Asia.
A difficulty caused by disagreements in the disambiguation in species of Ganoderma is that that is difficult to know which species were used in studies conducted on the potential benefits of reishi. There have been studies on G. curtisii that demonstrated that it does contain the components found in G. lingzhi that are associated with claimed benefits such as Beta Glucans, Hetro-B-glucans, B-(1-6), glucuronoglucan, mannogalactoglucan, ganoderans, ganoderic & ganoderenic acids, triterpenes, sterols, and fungal immunomodulatory proteins
Staments 'Mycomedicinals' (2005)
“Immune enhancing, Reishi primarily acts as a biological response modifier, stimulating macrophage (interleukins 1,2,610) production, activating the host's production o natural killer T cells and tumor necrosis factors. More than 100 distinct polysaccharides and 119 triterpenoids have been isolated from this species, both from the mycelia and the fruiting bodies. Many of those that have been studies thus far have shown immunomodulatory properties, of which only a fraction of which have been studied. Used for more than two millennia, sages and shamans believed the mind and the body were fortified by regular consumption of this mushroom in the form of teas that have a calming yet fortifying effect. Reishi has been the object of adulteration, as is reflected in hundreds of paintings. The fungus became to be called "Mushroom of Immortality." Buddists had a particular affection for Ling Zhiembellishing their temples with various artistic forms of this highly variable fungus.”

Janka Scale Explained

Now there are some things you have to consider whenever you're looking to purchase a set of hardwood floors. You have to be mindful of it because no matter what species of wood you get will show damage if you don't take care of it. But this is really true of all kinds of flooring. Some homeowners may be hesitant to go with hardwood flooring in homes that see a lot of foot traffic. For these homeowners I suggest taking a look at the Janka Hardness Scale.
How is the janka scale used?
The Janka Scale assigns different species of wood a hardness rating. They derive this rating by measuring the force necessary to embed a steel ball halfway through a piece of wood. What this tells them is how hard/dense the wood is. And naturally the harder the wood the more suited it would be to stand up to the rigors of a busy household.
Right at the top of the Janka scale is Brazilian Walnut, or Ipe. This wood is highly lauded for its strength and durability and is the hardest trade wood available. You can take a look at Brazilian Walnut and some more of the woods listed on the Janka Hardness Scale here.

Janka Scale Explained
As far as flooring choices go, you can't really go wrong with hardwood flooring. It adds value to your home, it offers you an assortment of design choices and it lasts for a very long time.

Pokémon Journeys: The Series is the eighth part of the anime series. It features all of the regions from the main-series games, including the Generation VIII games Pokémon Sword and Shield. This series shares its Japanese name with the original series when the anime first premiered in 1997, and is officially labeled with "2019", the year this series started in, for disambiguation. This new series focuses on the two protagonists Ash Ketchum and Goh, along with their partners Pikachu and Raboot. It also features a young girl named Koharu (Chloe), who has a Yamper, and her father, Professor Sakuragi (Cerise), who runs a laboratory in Vermilion City.
