Piaget’s Schema: Accommodation and Assimilation of New Information

A schema is a cognitive framework or structure which helps us organize & interpret information around us. Schemas are very useful in the fast processing of a vast amounts of information around us.
Schemas keep on changing with time, whenever people encounter new information that doesn't fit into existing schemas.
Schemas were first used by British psychologist Frederic Bartlett as part of his learning theory. Later on, it was popularized by Jean Piaget for his study on childhood cognitive development.

Why Schemas Form
So why would these childhood experiences from so long ago still impact us today? The answer is pretty simple. It rests on the fact that our 'issues' are not actually defects; they are modes of responding that we LEARNED (don't think of conscious, purposeful learning here, think more of conditioning). When does this learning happen? Well we begin to establish many of our core schemas in early childhood. After all, our brain can't wait until we are adults to try to figure out how to respond to life! It starts on day one, and works on overdrive throughout our whole childhood.
How Schemas Work
The problem is, once our brain has learned something a million times over, it stops questioning it's reality. In this way it can 'automate' its response and work more efficiently. These maps of reality are referred to as schemas. Childhood is such a critical period because when we are younger we are more open to learning. After all, by the time we are adults, haven't we learned everything we need to know? The brain sure thinks so! This is why changing as an adult is so difficult!
It's Hard, But We Can Change Our Schemas
Of course there are exceptions to this, for instance when a new experience is particularly intense (think of trauma, or for that matter a therapeutic breakthrough!). Or when we use therapy techniques to trigger memory reconsolidation (which we will talk about in the next video). But as a trend, our conditioned (learned) emotions, behaviors, and perspectives: our schemas, tend to stick with us into adulthood. Hence why our childhood experiences (or more accurately, what those experiences teach us) are at the core of everything!

The Psychology of The Fool
The fool is one of the most relatable, intriguing and recurring figures in the world. There have been fools who have caused surprise and laughter since time immemorial. We worship folly by seeing it in people and in the world and by willingly displaying it in ourselves. It is one of the timeless archetypes, which we all inherit at birth.
Many of us suffer from the absence of the fool in our lives. Frenetic and upright, we take ourselves too seriously. As William Shakespeare said, “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.” Forgetting that playfulness is a basic human need, we wonder why we so easily become bored and exhausted, losing all capacity for spontaneity, authenticity, and passion. The Psychology of The Devil
The Devil goes by many names: Satan, Lucifer, The Great Beast, Beelzebub, The Prince of Darkness. He is the adversary, the accuser, the tempter, the deceiver, and the one who divides from God. These divisions occur in almost every facet of our lives: race, sex, religion, politics, and economics. The demonic is an inversion of order.
Temptation is the ordinary activity of the devil. It is a real thing for us in each and every day. It begins with deception, buyi...

Narcissism isn’t just a personality type that shows up in advice columns; it’s actually a set of traits classified and studied by psychologists. But what causes it? And can narcissists improve on their negative traits? W. Keith Campbell describes the psychology behind the elevated and sometimes detrimental self-involvement of narcissists.

The Devil goes by many names: Satan, Lucifer, The Great Beast, Beelzebub, The Prince of Darkness. He is the adversary, the accuser, the tempter, the deceiver, and the one who divides from God. The Devil is incredibly wicked and evil, but also intelligent and witty – he is the father of all tricksters – that is what makes him so dangerous. The English word “devil” derives from the Greek diábolos (“the one who divides”). Diabolic is the term in contemporary English. The Greek verb dia-bollein literally means to tear apart. These divisions occur in almost every facet of our lives: race, sex, religion, politics, and economics. The demonic is an inversion of order.
Temptation is the ordinary activity of the devil. It is a real thing for us in each and every day. It begins with deception, buying into the lies of the devil, who promises good, only to deliver evil. The goal of this is to create division or inner conflict in ourselves. In despair, we numb ourselves with pleasure or diversion, which can lead to addiction. Hell is that state of mind which has abandoned itself so completely to a given sin that it cannot act independently of that sin.

how to publish a paper in international journal
A manuscript was, traditionally, any document written by hand – or, once practical typewriters became available, typewritten — as opposed to mechanically printed or reproduced in some indirect or automated way.

how to publish research as a high school student 📊
publishing research in high school seems so unattainable... at least that's how i felt before i was able to do it myself, at the age of 17 too! in this video i talk about how i was able to publish my own research paper as a high school student, and provide some insight onto the research review and publication process.
disclaimer: this video is based on my own personal experience from publishing research with the Journal of Emerging Investigators. i'm not an expert nor do i claim to be, and i'm merely hoping to provide my own insights on this somewhat unfamiliar area for many high school students!

How scientific papers are published
You might be wondering how scientific papers are published. I have published 12 scientific papers, and I can tell you the 7 steps need to publish a scientific paper. I have been accepted and rejected from scientific journals, and I will even show you my reviewer comments from two of my accepted papers. The review of research by other researchers is called peer-review. One peer reviewer is kind and straightforward, the other is also straightforward but snarky. Either way, I hope you enjoy some insight into the scientific paper process and how it can take 2-10 years to publish a single scientific paper.

The Crazy Business of Scientific Publishing
💡 In 1995, Forbes published an article titled, “The Internet’s first victim?”. In the article, author John Hayes predicted that the scientific publishing powerhouse, Reed Elsevier, would go under water when internet became mainstream. That’s because people would simply look up the scientific papers online instead of paying a subscription fee to the journals. After the publication of the article, investors got nervous. Elsevier’s stocks fell 7% in just 2 days to $26 per share. But turns out he was wrong, really really wrong.
