West Delhi has an area of 129km², with a population density of nearly 14,000 persons per km². The population of 1,743,980 consists of 949,750 males and 794,230 females. Children between 0–6 years are 203,528 consisting of 109,526 boys and 94,002 girls. The literacy rate is above 70% at a total of 1,301,252 of which 739,572 are males and 561,680 females.
The “Council of West Delhi RWAs (Regd.)”, the RWA’s of the area have long recognized the need for better communication between RWA’s at the local level, and we are sure that this Council will provide the structured forum needed. By participating in Council, we all will have the opportunity to focus on local problems and join in finding solutions by networking more effectively with other members, where we can share information more effectively, mutually consider legislative needs and, by working together, provide the best possible services.
West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency (Hindi:पश्चिम दिल्ली लोकसभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र) is one of the seven Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. This constituency came into existence in 2008 as a part of the implementation of the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission of India constituted in 2002. Earlier some parts of the constituency were included in Outer Delhi constituency and some parts were included in the erstwhile South Delhi constituency.
Assembly segments
West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency presently comprises the following ten Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) constituencies:
Delhi (/ˈdɛli/, Hindustani pronunciation:[d̪ɪlliː]Dilli), officially the National Capital Territory of Delhi, is the capital territory of India. Delhi is historically and culturally connected to both the Upper Doab of the Yamuna-Ganges river system and the Punjab region. It is bordered by Haryana on three sides and by Uttar Pradesh to the east. It is the largest city in India in terms of geographical area - about 1,484 square kilometres (573sqmi). It has a population of about 16.3 million, making it the second most populous city and second most populous urban agglomeration in India and 3rd largest urban area in the world. Such is the nature of urban expansion in Delhi that its growth has expanded beyond the NCT to incorporate towns in neighbouring states and at its largest extent can count a population of about 25 million residents as of 2014.
Delhi has been continuously inhabited since the 6th century BC. Through most of its history, Delhi has served as a capital of various kingdoms and empires. It has been captured, ransacked and rebuilt several times, particularly during the medieval period, and modern Delhi is a cluster of a number of cities spread across the metropolitan region.
Delhi (pronounced DEL-High) is a former township (now an unincorporated community) located off of the junction of Ontario Highways 59 and 3. Delhi is known as the "Heart of Tobacco Country." Prior to 1880, this community was known for its lumber industry.
Founded by Frederick Sovereign as Sovereign's Corners around 1826, the community was renamed Fredericksburg and eventually to its present-day name of Delhi. The name is usually attributed locally to a postmaster honouring a major city of the British Empire, Delhi, India.
History
Delhi Cemetery was first established sometime in the 19th century. While it was originally a cemetery exclusively for residents who were religiously involved in the Roman Catholic Church, changes in cemetery policy made it possible to have anyone buried or interned on their property. At least 111 people and/or families hold their final resting place here. The last names of the graves belong to different ethnic groups ranging from Anglo-Saxon, French Canadian, Eastern European, and those of Belgian descent. There are even few Chinese families buried within the cemetery and a wide amount of tombstones are written in languages other than English.
Delhi's ethnic groups are diverse. During the British Raj, Delhi was a district city of the Punjab Province of British India and is still historically and culturally connected to the Punjab region. The Yamuna river was the historical boundary between the Punjab and the rest of the Indo-Gangetic Plain, and its flood plains provide fertile alluvial soil suitable for agriculture but are prone to recurrent floods. The Yamuna, a sacred river in Hinduism, is the only major river flowing through Delhi. The original natives of Delhi are those whose ancestors lived in the Yamuna basin, a region which spreads radially from the capital up to a distance of approximately 200 kilometres. Today the migrant population consists largely of Bhojpuris and Biharis.
Migrants
The Indian censuses record the native languages, but not the descent of the citizens. Linguistic data cannot accurately predict ethnicity: for example, many descendants of the PunjabiHindu and Sikh refugees who came to Delhi following the partition of India now speak Hindi natively. Thus, there is no concrete official data on the ethnic makeup of Delhi.

Delhi Election: Arvind Kejriwal's car attacked, BJP claims vehicle hit 2 people
BJP candidate from New Delhi assembly seat, Parvesh Verma met those who were injured after being allegedly hit by the car of AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal at the Lady Hardinge Medical College on January 18. Parallel to this, AAP accused the Bharatiya Janata Party "goons" of attacking its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal.
While speaking to ANI, one of the injured individuals mentioned that he belongs to the New Delhi constituency and had approached Arvind Kejriwal to inquire about job opportunities. He also alleged that Kejriwal instructed the car driver to run them over." “I am a resident of the (New Delhi) constituency. We just went there to ask him about jobs. Arvind Kejriwal signaled the driver of the car to hit us", says Vishal one of the injured after allegedly being hit by t...

This is the most populous city, and the capital, of a country that will soon have more people than anywhere else on Earth. Home to more than 31 million residents, it’s a chaotic place with a complicated history. It has major problems in housing, inequality, and transportation, but if it can solve them, its residents will experience an enormous increase in prosperity. As India’s seat of power, what happens here impacts a billion people and reverberates around the world. This is Delhi: a fulcrum of the 21st century.
Nestled along a protective ridge that sends Himalayan snowmelt either west to the tributaries of the Indus river, or east to the Ganges, Delhi is the gateway to one of the most expansive, fertile agricultural plains on the planet, and a collection point for goods on their way to an extensive coastline for export.
This land has been the capital of empire after empire for thousands of years, but the defining moment in its modern history occurred 75 years ago when India declared its independence from the British Empire at Delhi’s Red Fort. This resulted in the partition of the Indian territory along religious lines into India, and West and East Pakistan, which eventually became independent Bangladesh.
This had massive consequences.
This flood of new arrivals overwhelmed the city as makeshift housing settlements sprouted and grew all over. This building wasn’t done to code and lacked basic plumbing and sewers. It’s a crisis that Delhi is still struggling to solve. Today, the percentage of its residents living in so-called unauthorized areas is as high as 40%. That’s a staggering 12 million people.
But to get a more complete picture of what Delhi is today, we must go back to events after Indian independence. In 1947 Indian per-capita income had not increased since 1757–that’s 190 years of British imperialists taking ownership of - and exporting away - vast quantities of India’s bountiful natural resources. Revolutionary Mahatma Gandhi and his hand-picked political heir, Jawaharlal Nehru, knew the Indian people needed a far different system than what the British Empire had imposed.
What Nehru wanted was an idyllic ‘Total Society’ in which injustice and inequality would be defeated by the perfect nation-system. This dream was cemented during a short four-day visit to Moscow, where Nehru and his father were wined and dined by the Communist Party’s elite celebrating the ten-year anniversary of the Bolshevik revolution. With tightly managed visits to factories and theatres, it was an obvious attempt to impart a rosy picture of Soviet-style socialism onto visiting dignitaries, and it worked. Nehru was awed by the USSR’s achievements in industry, art, and bureaucracy.
Real estate and land development in the city of Delhi was tightly controlled. The Delhi Development Authority - or DDA - was created in 1957 and granted the exclusive responsibility of land development within the borders of the city. The DDA prevented individuals from owning more than a handful of acres and forced people to sell the agency their property at below-market prices.

Delhi Elections 2025 Live Updates: Will the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) form the government for the fourth consecutive time by winning the Delhi Assembly elections or will the people give a chance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which has been waiting for 27 years? The predictions made in the first survey on the Delhi Assembly elections may increase the worries of AAP but are good news for the BJP.

We made it to India!! Come with us as we explore Old and New Delhi during as we develop our first impressions of India. In this video we really wanted to show the multiple faces of Delhi; a city most commonly known to the Western World as a place of noise, dirt, and poverty. And while that can all be found here, New Delhi and Cyber City showed us that the opposite things can be found here too: quiet, cleanliness, and wealth. There is so much to discover in Delhi!
If you are visiting Delhi soon or this is your first time in Delhi as well, then this video will also help you plan your time in this giant city! To really develop our first impressions of India, we wanted to explore as much of Delhi as we could (without overloading this vlog too much!). Over the course of a couple days (thanks rain), we were able to see India Gate, Delhi's Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid Mosque, Connaught Place, Cyber City and Cyber Hub (which are just outside of Delhi in an area called Gurugram), and of course we rode the top-notch Delhi Metro!
Delhi is a huge city, and the two areas we were primarily in for this video are called Old Delhi and New Delhi. Old Delhi is the oldest part of the city and was originally built during the Moghuls. There are incredible pieces of history in Old Delhi and the infamous Chandni Chowk is here. Chandni Chowk is an area well known for being home to many, many shops and residences packed tightly together. Because it was built before cars were invented, the roads are more like small alleyways. There is never a dull moment here! New Delhi was designed by the British during colonial times and tends to attract high-end restaurants, hotels, and shops.
It is very common for travelers to make Delhi the first stop on their visit to India because it is part of the Golden Triangle in India. The Golden Triangle is made up of Delhi, Agra (where the Taj Mahal is), and Jaipur (commonly called the Pink City). For tourists who are short on time, visiting the three cities in the Golden Triangle is a great way to get a small peak into what India is like! Like so many others, Delhi was our first stop in this new country and was a great place to make our first impressions of India!

Hey there! We are Nicole and Mico, full-time travel vloggers searching for adventures all around the globe. In March 2021 we quit our jobs, sold our belongings, and hopped on our first ever one-way flight leaving our home country #Canada. We believe #travel builds understanding that reaches across culture, language, and boundaries, and we want to share our experiences as we create connections all over the world. If you like learning about unique places, new cultures and different foods, then come follow our adventure as we explore all our beautiful planet has to offer.

Arvind Kejriwal signaled the driver of the car to hit us", says Vishal one of the injured after allegedly being hit by the car of Arvind Kejriwal”, said one of the injured person (ANI)

Delhi is certainly not for the faint-hearted! I decided to walk alone through the busiest street in town, which at rush hour, is the most crowded street in the world! Would you ever do this by yourself?! Also, do you like India? I have a love-hate relationship with the country, but something keeps pulling me back!

India's capital and most populous city is Delhi, home to 31 million residents.
Subscribe to TDC: https://www.youtube.com/TheDailyConversation/
