NHS foundation trusts are semi-autonomous organisational units within the National Health Service in England. They have a degree of independence from the Department of Health (and, until the abolition of SHAs in 2013, their local strategic health authority). As of March 2014 there were 147 NHS Foundation Trusts
Inspiration
Alan Milburn's trip in 2001 to the Hospital Universitario Fundación Alcorcón in Spain is thought to have been influential in developing ideas around foundation status. The hospital was built by the Spanish National Health System, but its operational management is contracted out to a private company, and exempt from many of the rules normally imposed on state-owned hospitals, and in particular, the hospital was allowed to negotiate its own contracts with workers. The governance of the hospital includes local government, trade unions, health workers and community groups.
History
Foundation trusts were announced by Health SecretaryAlan Milburn in 2002. The first 10 NHS hospitals to become foundation trusts were announced in 2004.Gordon Brown prevented plans by Alan Milburn that they should be financially autonomous in 2002. By the end of 2012, the Monitor website listed 144 Foundation Trusts.
Iron Age and Roman settlements dot the area covered by the district, including a small Roman fort to the south-west in the upper flood meadow of the Don. Rotherham was founded in the very early Middle Ages. Its name is from Old English hām 'homestead, estate', meaning 'homestead on the Rother'. The river name was carried into Old English from Brittonic branch of Celtic words: ro- 'over, chief' and duβr 'water', thus 'main river'; a similar size namesake is in East Sussex, see Rother. It established itself as a Saxon market town, on a Roman road near a forded part of the River Don.
Rotherham has returned Labour MPs since 1933 following the earlier period before 1923 dominated by the Liberal and Conservative parties. In every example the majority has been relatively large in this period, meaning that since that date the result has been a safe seat.
Boundaries
Rotherham constituency is one of three borough constituencies in the borough. The current boundary configuration was confirmed in 2005. It is formed with the Rotherham borough electoral wards:

Nursing, midwifery and care staff as part of their everyday practice are well-placed to identify opportunities for transformational change that will support delivery of better outcomes and experiences of those who use our services. To support this local accreditation aims to provide us with the tools to bring together key measures from across nursing and clinical care into a single overarching framework which can enable those working within that environment to undertake a comprehensive assessment of quality of care from ward, unit and team levels.

A 4K walking tour through Rotherham England to see what's happening in the town, what is there, what has gone and what has changed here in Rotherham Town Centre.
Rotherham is a town in South Yorkshire in the North of England close to Sheffield and Doncaster.
Best known for coal mining and the steel industry, Rotherham is a minster town with around 250,000 people living in and around the area. We took a walk around Rotherham Town Centre to check out the place and show you around the streets here.
We start this walking tour on Westgate and head North past Main Street and down to Ship Hill and High Street. We take a left here onto Market Place and down into the heart of Rotherham Town Centre.
We come onto Rotherham Minster, All Saints Square, College Street and then onto High Street. The walk ends around Rotherham Bridge, Rotherham Train Station and the new development on the River Don
Rotherham town centre has various chain stores including Tesco Extra. Following the availability of "Vitality Grants" from 2009 onwards, a number of new independent businesses opened in the town centre such as Yella Brick Road
In 2015, Rotherham won the Great British High Street award for its independent town centre shopping. Judges praised the transformation of key properties and the restoration of its "historic core"
A plaque commemorating the award was unveiled by Secretary of State for Local Government & Committees Sajid Javid MP in September 2016.
As of 2021 the majority of the retail in Rotherham is made up of a thriving independent scene with lots of new start up businesses opening in the town centre.
Due to the close proximity of Sheffield City Centre, Meadowhall shopping centre and the towns Parkgate Retail Park Rotherham has struggled to attract major brands. This has created the opportunity for Rotherham to proposition itself as an independent alternative.
Rotherham is the hometown of the Chuckle Brothers, Arsenal and England goalkeeper David Seaman along with World Cup and English Premier League referee Howard Webb.
Sean Bean began his acting career in Rotherham while actors Liz White, Ryan Sampson, Dean Andrews and Darrell D'Silva also hail from Rotherham, as does former leader of the Conservative Party, William Hague, and Sir Donald Coleman Bailey.
Presenter James May grew up in Rotherham. His co-presenter on Top Gear Jeremy Clarkson trained to be a journalist at the Rotherham Advertiser.
Comedians Sandy Powell and Duggie Brown were born in Rotherham, as was actress Lynne Perrie. Christopher Wolstenholme of Muse, DJ Kritikal Mass, Dean Andrews of Life On Mars, artist Margaret Clarkson, band Jive Bunny & The Mastermixers and singer-actor Rob McVeigh were all born or mostly raised in Rotherham.

Dr Nick Watts, NHS Chief Sustainability Officer, visits Manchester University Foundation Trust to talk to staff and patients about the steps they are taking to build a greener NHS — from LED lighting, to banana trees!
Every NHS trust in England now has a green plan in place, to deliver improved patient care and to save lives, while reducing costs and waste.
Find out more about the NHS is turning national ambition into local action. https://www.england.nhs.uk/greenernhs/2022/06/blog-signed-sealed-and-212-steps-towards-delivering-the-worlds-first-net-zero-health-service/
On 1 July 2014 the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust acquired Barnet Hospital and Chase Farm Hospital. We now have 10,000 staff serving approximately 1.6 million patients across North London.
We are proud of the history of each of our hospitals and are committed to the delivery of world class care.
This video is shown to all new staff joining the trust and gives them an insight into life as part of the Royal Free London.
Following the recent launch of our new Vision, Values and Behaviours at MFT, we have developed a short film to help embed these across the organisation:
Everyone Matters
Working Together
Dignity and Care
Open and Honest
These Values are the principles which guide the way we work every day, to ensure our services are the very best they can be for our patients and for our workforce. Thank you to all the staff and patients who kindly agreed to take part in the film and we do hope you enjoy watching.
To celebrate NHS70, we've created a mini series, The NHS and Me.
We asked staff from across King's College Hospital Foundation Trust, what the NHS means to them.
Hear what they had to say....

The accreditation scheme in Gateshead provides wards with a set of quality and safety standards, which are assessed at annual assessment days. The assessment panel reviews the ward or department based on an assurance framework, which was developed through the Trust’s Nursing and Midwifery Strategy. The four key ambitions within this framework are:
· high quality care every time
· putting patients first
· driving excellence in patient safety
· shaping the future workforce.
In April 2019 the Chief Nursing Officer for England launched the ‘Guide to developing and implementing ward and unit accreditation programme’ as a guide for Chief Nurses and those in senior nursing and midwifery roles to support them with local accreditation as well as to shared examples of good practice and learning.

I have the chain. This relative of the last one. Settin off rules. No time to shake down. Don't need but a moment to blast one. This is how we roll. So full of soul, That the founding fathers be delivered. No chemistry is inside of me. Opponents, they start to shiver while... I have seen the state of being In which the world will change it's own. I have failed to teach the children That the fear will gets in over. And I have heard the god of prophets Coming out of my TV. And I refuse to let you down And inbetween while stealing me. Calling, calling all nations. You've got to push the, push the invasion. So when you kick it up, you kick it up, you kick it up, As a rocking foundation, as a rocking foundation. My mind is always on the run, Too and fro, in oblivion. Simplify the urban family, yeah, Fights the war again, social insanity. Calling, calling all nations. You've got to push the, push the invasion. So when you kick it up, you kick it up, you kick it up, As a rocking foundation, as a rocking foundation. Calling, calling all nations. You've got to push the, push the invasion. So when you lock it down, you lock it down, you lock it down, As a rocking foundation. Your life is only one tick of... Yeah, And you have got the golden cage. Push it out the street, to the sewer, Enemies will grow, few to fewer. Steadfast we call on all nations, Dance as we rock on all stations. Feel it in your bones, shake it down, Rise above it all, drop your frown. Fall onto your knees, hands go high up, Smokey add fuel, to the fire. Calling, calling all nations. You've got to push the, push the invasion. So when you kick it up, you kick it up, you kick it up, As a rocking foundation. (As a rocking foundation.) Calling, calling all nations. You've got to push the, push the invasion. So when you lock it down, you lock it down, you lock it down, As a rocking foundation. (As a rocking foundation.) Calling, calling all nations. You've got to push the, push the invasion. So when you kick it up, you kick it up, you kick it up, As a rocking foundation. (As a rocking foundation.) Calling, calling all nations. You've got to push the, push the invasion. So when you lock it down, you lock it down, you lock it down,
