Ayanna Pressley is a member of the Boston City Council in Boston, Massachusetts. She is the first woman of color to be elected to the council in its 105-year history.
Career
A native of Chicago, Pressley attended Boston University, but dropped out to support her mother who lost her job. After leaving Boston University, Pressley worked as a Senior Aide for Congressman Joseph Patrick Kennedy II and United States SenatorJohn Kerry. During 2009, Pressley served as Kerry’s Political Director, responsible for managing his relationships with elected officials at the city, state and federal level and with various community leaders.
Pressley was first elected to the Boston City Council on November 3, 2009. The only woman in a field of 15 candidates, Pressley earned one of four At-Large spots on the city’s 13-member council with nearly 42,000 votes. After being sworn in on January 4, 2010 she became the first woman of color to serve in the 100-year history of the Boston City Council.
"A Milhouse Divided" (the only full episode of The Simpsons Tompkins has written)
Josh Weinstein and Bill Oakley said that, with the exception of George Meyer, Tompkins had contributed more to seasons seven and eight than anyone else on the Simpsons staff. Tompkins wrote the sequence in "Homer's Phobia" where Homer takes Bart to a steel mill that turns out to be a gay dance club. He first pitched that Homer and Bart would encounter longshoremen, but it was too much work to animate the lading of ships, so a steel mill was used instead. Tompkins also wrote a different third act for the episode which was replaced in the final cut. Instead of Homer, Bart, Barney and Moe going deer hunting and ending up at "Santa's Village" they would go back to the steel mill. There, Homer would attempt to prove his heterosexuality by having a human tractor pulling contest with some of the steel mill workers. It was decided that it "didn't really service the story" and was dropped.

Young Vic: Steve Tompkins of Haworth Tompkins and Pricegore discuss the reimagined theatre
In 1970, Howell Killick Partridge Amis (HKPA) designed a theatre for the Young Vic company, an off-shoot of the Old Vic, that would create a new kind of theatre for a new generation - one that was unconventional, classless, open, circus-like and cheap. Arranged around an old butchers shop (a lone survivor of wartime bombing), the new theatre was built at a cost of £60,000 and was only intended to last for just five years. Although becoming one of Europe’s most important producing houses, the building itself had outgrown its informal beginnings. It was now too small, too energy hungry and technically obsolete. In the early 2000s, architects Haworth Tompkins won a competition to significantly expand and rework the site, re-imagining a new theatre grown around the auditorium, adding an enlarg...

Each weekday morning, "CBS This Morning" co-hosts Gayle King, Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil deliver two hours of original reporting, breaking news and top-level newsmaker interviews in an engaging and informative format that challenges the norm in network morning news programs. The broadcast has earned a prestigious Peabody Award, a Polk Award, four News & Documentary Emmys, three Daytime Emmys and the 2017 Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast. The broadcast was also honored with an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award as part of CBS News division-wide coverage of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Check local listings for "CBS This Morning" broadcast times.
Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley joins the program and engages in a discussion with Dean Michelle Williams and former Rep. Jeff Sánchez about ending racism in public health and other topics.
In the early 2000s, architects Haworth Tompkins won a competition to significantly expand and rework the site, re-imagining a new theatre grown around the auditorium, adding an enlarged foyer bar, two new studio theatres and much improved support spaces. Dingle Price and Alex Gore of Pricegore, talk to Steve Tompkins of Haworth Tompkins, about the unique design process for the renewed theatre.
Dingle Price and Alex Gore are founding directors of Pricegore, an architecture practice that seeks to respond to the particularities of contemporary economic, environmental, cultural and social conditions. In 2019, The Observer listed their Dulwich Pavilion as No. 2 in the architectural highlights of the year, and The Evening Standard listed directors, Dingle Price and Alex Gore as two of the most influential practitioners in London. https://pricegore.co.uk/
AF TURNS 30
AF Turns 30 is a new weekly series looking back at the people, projects and policy that have shaped the architectural landscape over the past thirty years. The programme marks thirty years since the Architecture Foundation was established in 1991. Each episode is guest presented by a new generation of practitioners, writers and historians; reflecting on landmark architectural projects in the U.K. and beyond.
ABOUT THE ARCHITECTURE FOUNDATION
For 30 years, the Architecture Foundation has brought together professionals from across the built environment to discuss and act on issues related to design and the built environment. With a renewed focus on the city and the critical intersection of architecture and politics, the Architecture Foundation works to effect meaningful change on policy and practice.

Architect Steve Tompkins from Haworth Tompkins leads a tour of the site where the new theatre will take shape, pointing out in situ where the theatre space, Bistro, dressing rooms, rehearsal spaces and other new facilities that will soon be a reality.
The debate is an intense one in Boston over what is the best approach to the problems that have come to define the area known as Mass and Cass — the intersection of Massachusetts Ave and Melnea Cass Boulevard where homelessness, opioid addiction and tent encampments have become ubiquitous. Suffolk County Sheriff Steve Tompkins has proposed setting up a temporary shelter at an empty detention center nearby, but critics point out that such a plan would involve involuntarily committing people to treatment. Sheriff Tompkins joined Jim Braude to discuss.
Boston's new leaders are an inspiring change for many. WBZ-TV's David Wade sat down with Boston Police Commissioner William Gross, Congresswoman-elect Ayanna Pressley and Sheriff Steve Tompkins to discuss the city's future and the issues impacting people of color.
Steve Tompkins is the first to admit that he has the coolest job – driver training and racing for Aston Martin. On any day his office can be a Vulcan or even a Valkyrie.
Recently he was in New Zealand to drive Steve Harrison's new Vantage GT4 in the NZ Endurance Series finale
