With a population of 7,671, the state capital of Montpelier is the least populous state capital in the US. Vermont's most populous city is Burlington. With a 2013 population of 42,284, Burlington is the least populous city in the United States to be the largest city within a state. Burlington's metropolitan area has a population of 214,796. Vermont is one of the most racially homogeneous states; 94.3% of its population identified as non-Hispanic white in 2010.
Vermont wine refers to wine made from grapes grown in the U.S. state of Vermont. The first commercial winery in Vermont, Snow Farm Winery, opened in 1997. Vermont is a very cold climate for viticulture. Vermont wineries have focused on using cold-hardy French hybrid grapes, but have been experimenting with some Vitis viniferavarieties. Some Vermont wineries produce wine made from grapes grown in other states, especially New York.
It’s one of the most rural and least populated parts of the country. Covered in forests and mountains, filled with lakes and islands, Vermont is renowned for its scenery and splendor. It’s a land of small farms and towns, tucked into tiny valleys and along the shores of Lake Champlain, a place where covered bridges cross small creeks and rivers, and syrup is harvested from maple trees. Its history, politics, and culture stand out starkly from much of the US and it’s one of just a few states to have been an independent country before joining the union. A state rich in history, Vermonters sort of have their own culture and way of life that’s kinda unique. If you’re thinking of moving here, you’re very rare. Cause no one’s moving here.
But to get a complete understanding of this teeny tiny state, we need to look at a map which has the state’s various regions, and then check each area out individually.
This is Vermont. As you can see, there’s actually SOMETHING going on here. A few bright spots in terms of culture and in diversity. Most of what we’ll talk about is stuff that Vermonters know very well.

Vermont, also known as the Green Mountain State, has one of the longest and most interesting histories in the United States. At one point, for a considerable period of time, it was even it's own country! But despite this lengthy history, only about 647,000 people call the state home, less than half its neighbor New Hampshire and MUCH smaller than either New York State or Massachusetts. So why don't more people live in Vermont if it's both beautiful and in a region that is otherwise densely populated?

It’s one of the most rural and least populated parts of the country. Covered in forests and mountains, filled with lakes and islands, Vermont is renowned for its scenery and splendor. It’s a land of small farms and towns, tucked into tiny valleys and along the shores of Lake Champlain, a place where covered bridges cross small creeks and rivers, and syrup is harvested from maple trees. Its history, politics, and culture stand out starkly from much of the US and it’s one of just a few states to have been an independent country before joining the union. In disputed territory, colonial politics led to a call for independence different from, but intertwined with, the war with the British. The History Guy recalls when Vermont stood for fourteen years as a nation unto itself. It is history that deserves to be remembered.

Have you ever thought about moving to the Green Mountain State? Thinking about retirement in Vermont? It's probably not a bad idea for a lot of us.
Data shows that Vermont has seen an influx of new residents since the pandemic started about two years ago, out of nowhere this quiet NE state got popular. According to the United Van Lines mover study for 2021 Vermont was the top dog with the highest share of “inbound” moves, with more people moving in (74.3%) versus out (25.7%). The lowest, by the way, was NJ and they were almost the exact opposite with 71% for every 29% moving in.
So if you are one of those people looking to give Vermont a-go. These are 10 things you should know before you go.

Is everyone in Vermont an old hippie?
Do they put syrup on everything here?
And are ALL the young people leaving this state?
We’ll answer those questions and a whole lot more. So grab a Creemee and hop in the Subaru. We’re gonna unbox the state of Vermont.
Aww Vermont. Or should I say Vermawn. Cause that’s how they say it there. It’s a very small state in both size and in population. A very rural place which is mostly trees, farmland, cows and old white people. It’s a state that’s not understood very well, because not many people have actually been to Vermont. Or know anyone from Vermont. Or have ever seen an actual image from Vermont. It does exist. It’s part of New England.
