Vanessa Bell Armstrong (born Vanessa Bell on October 2, 1953 in Detroit, Michigan) is a gospel singer who released her debut album Peace Be Still in 1983.
Musical career
Vanessa Bell Armstrong made her solo debut on Onyx/Muscle Shoals Sound Records in 1983 with the album Peace Be Still. The title track has since became one of Armstrong's signature songs.
Armstrong's second album Chosen hit number one on the US Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart.
Bell Armstrong performed on the 1st Annual Soul Train Awards ceremony. Her 1986 album Following Jesus won a Soul Train Music Award for Best Gospel Album - Solo in 1988. She is also a seven time Grammy Award-nominee.
Vanessa enjoyed a slice of mainstream success in the late 1980s. Her self-titled 1987 Jive Records debut yielded the Billboard-charting hit "You Bring Out The Best In Me," as well as the club favorite "Pressing On." The next year's follow-up album Wonderful One featured a cover of the Labi Siffre anti-Apartheid anthem "Something Inside So Strong." The song was later remade in 1995 by Armstrong along with Shirley Caesar, Fred Hammond, Tramaine Hawkins, Yolanda Adams, and a host of other gospel artists as a tribute to Rosa Parks. The song was serviced to radio stations to play on the 40th anniversary of the civil rights icon's arrest.
Vanessa Bell Armstrong is the major-label debut album of gospel singer Vanessa Bell Armstrong. Though the artist had garnered Grammy- and Stellar-award nominations previously for her work as an independent artist, this album was the gospel artist's first foray into the mainstream market. The album was produced by Loris Holland as well as Marvin Winans of The Winans.
The album yielded a pair of singles, "Pressing On" and "You Bring Out The Best In Me." The former was also remixed and released in both 7" and 12" formats conducive to crossover into the dance-music market. This was notable as the crossover potential of gospel music was still not widely accepted.
Vanessa Stephen was the eldest daughter of Sir Leslie Stephen and Julia Prinsep Duckworth (1846–1895). The family, including her sister Virginia; brothers Thoby (1880–1906) and Adrian (1883–1948), and half-brothers, George and Gerald Duckworth, lived at 22 Hyde Park Gate, Westminster, London. She was educated at home in languages, mathematics and history, and took drawing lessons from Ebenezer Cook before she attended Sir Arthur Cope's art school in 1896, and then studied painting at the Royal Academy in 1901.
In later life she alleged that during her childhood she had been sexually molested by her half-brothers, George and Gerald Duckworth.
Private life
After the deaths of her mother in 1895 and her father in 1904, Vanessa sold 22 Hyde Park Gate and moved to Bloomsbury with Virginia and brothers Thoby and Adrian, where they met and began socialising with the artists, writers and intellectuals who would come to form the Bloomsbury Group. The Bloomsbury Group's first Thursday evening meetings began at Bell's house in Gordon Square.

Reminiscing about Bloomsbury [1]
As you may have noticed, I have a pretty strong interest in the Bloomsbury Group.
I’ve previously uploaded the only record of the voice of Virginia Woolf - a broadcast she gave at the BBC 1937, in which she considers various aspects of the English language and the process of writing itself.
And I've uploaded film of Leonard Woolf, husband of Virginia Woolf, talking about the mind of one of the most important economists of the C20 and fellow Bloomsbury Group member, John Maynard Keynes.
And uploaded film and separate audio of E M Foster at Cambridge University talking about the business of writing for the BBC's 'Monitor' program.
This here is an audio of Vanessa Bell, painter and sister of Virginia Woolf, relating a curious discussion that occurred the two siblings as children.
Enjoy!...

Vanessa Bell: A collection of 120 paintings (HD)
Description: "Vanessa Bell defied the Victorian strictures of her upbringing to forge a life filled with creativity, and collaboration. A vital founder of the Bloomsbury Group, Bell, along with her novelist sister Virginia Woolf, the critic Roger Fry, and the artist Duncan Grant among others, embraced the avant-garde styles of continental Europe to advance modern art and to break down the barriers between fine and applied arts. Bucking traditional English mores, Bell created a distinctly modern oeuvre that ranged over still lifes, landscapes, interiors, and abstract paintings as well as decorative arts such as textiles, pottery, and furniture. While Bell embraced Fauvist and Cubist styles, making her paintings some of the most radical Britain had yet seen, her insistence on drawing inspiration from her domestic life led later historians and critics to downplay her importance in the development of modern art, an assessment that is now rapidly changing."

We've come this far by faith Pick up your pace and don't you be late I'm hear to tell ya about the good news Somethin' about the path that we choose y'all Wisdom has built this house now Integrity will bring your pride out If you know how to pray the situation out Prayer is the answer..There is no doubt Monday we held it together and.. Wednesday we had stormy weather and.. Friday we prayed it all better and.. Sunday we heard the news. He won't stop blessing you What he'll do is keep testing you And a begger is no less than you Cause' one day it could be you.. So get your folks together for some church y'all Some good music and prayer in service won't hurt y'all Even if you don't believe in the preacher It's bound to be a few things she could teach you. Monday we held it together and.. Wednesday we had stormy weather and.. Friday we prayed it all better and.. Sunday we heard the news Monday we held it together and.. Wednesday we had stormy weather and.. Friday we prayed it all better and.. Sunday we heard the news. Monday we held it together and.. Wednesday we had stormy weather and.. Friday we prayed it all better and.. Sunday we heard the news. These are the greatest days of our test you need to be working with a made up mind Walk by faith nor by sight and all you battles you know he will fight The sky changes colors in there many ways The world is going to be a better place someday Love and Unity if you just believe Than all your blessings you will recieve Monday we held it together and.. Wednesday we had stormy weather and.. Friday we prayed it all better and.. Sunday we heard the news.. Monday we held it together and.. Wednesday we had stormy weather and..
