The region is the second-smallest (499.19km², or 192.74 sq mi) and most populous (1,854,442 at 2006 census) of Quebec's seventeen administrative regions.
Montreal Agglomeration Council
It consists of the 2002–2005 territory of the city of Montreal, and is coextensive with the Urban Agglomeration of Montreal (French: Agglomération de Montréal). Following merger of all the municipalities of the agglomeration into one on January 1, 2002, sixteen of its municipalities were reconstituted on January 1, 2006. The urban agglomeration is governed by the Montreal Agglomeration Council (French: Conseil d'agglomération de Montréal).
An agglomeration, or urban agglomeration, is an administrative subdivision of Quebec at the local level that may group together a number of municipalities which were abolished as independent entities on 1 January 2002 but reconstituted on 1 January 2006.
Urban agglomerations have certain powers that would ordinarily be exercised by individual municipalities.
Definition
The Act respecting the exercise of certain municipal powers in certain urban agglomerations defines the expression urban agglomeration as follows.
One municipality in each agglomeration is known as the central municipality and has special status under the Act. The others are called related municipalities.
The Act defines the powers exercised by the agglomeration and those exercised by the reconstituted municipalities, known as agglomeration powers (compétences d'agglomération) and local powers (compétences de proximité).
Agglomeration councils
Agglomeration powers are exercised by agglomeration councils (conseils d'agglomération).
Of Montreal (stylized as of Montreal) is an American rock band from Athens, Georgia. It was founded by frontman Kevin Barnes in 1996, named after a failed romance between Barnes and a woman "of Montreal." The band is identified as part of the Elephant 6 collective. Throughout its existence, of Montreal's musical style has evolved considerably and drawn inspiration from numerous '60s psychedelic pop acts.
In 1206 Montréal was the site of debates between Catholics and Cathars, a sect of Christianity whose beliefs ran contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church of the time. These debates were initiated by Diego of Osma and his canon, the future Saint Dominic, as part of Pope Innocent III's program to convert the Cathars in the area to Catholocism.
Montreal is a Crusader castle on the eastern side of the Arabah, perched on the side of a rocky, conical mountain, looking out over fruit trees below. The ruins, called Shoubak or Shawbak in Arabic, are located in modern town of Shoubak in Jordan.
History
The castle was built in 1115 by Baldwin I of Jerusalem during his expedition to the area where he captured Aqaba on the Red Sea in 1116. Originally called 'Krak de Montreal' or 'Mons Regalis', it was named in honour of the king's own contribution to its construction (Mont Royal). It was strategically located on a hill on the plain of Edom, along the pilgrimage and caravan routes from Syria to Arabia. This allowed Baldwin to control the commerce of the area, as pilgrims and merchants needed permission to travel past it. It was surrounded by relatively fertile land, and two cisterns were carved into the hill, with a long, steep staircase leading to springs within the hill itself.
Jesse Arnaud Cook is a Canadian guitarist, composer, and producer. Widely considered one of the most influential figures in nuevo flamenco music, he incorporates elements of flamenco rumba, jazz and many forms of world music into his work. He is a Juno Award winner, Acoustic Guitar Player's Choice Award silver winner in the Flamenco Category, and a three-time winner of the Canadian Smooth Jazz award for Guitarist of the Year. He has recorded on the EMI, E1 Music and Narada labels and has sold over 1.5million records worldwide.
Life and career
Born in Paris on 28 November 1964 to photographer and filmmaker John Cook and television director and producer Heather Cook, and nephew to artist Arnaud Maggs, Jesse Cook spent the first few years of his life moving between Paris, Southern France and Barcelona. As a toddler he was fascinated by the guitar and tried to emulate the sound he heard coming from his parents' recordings of Manitas de Plata, a famous Gypsy guitarist from the region of Southern France known as the Camargue.
The Life-Sized City - Montreal - S02 E06 - Full Episode
Although Montreal could be described as half Paris, half Brooklyn - it is after all the most populated francophone city in North America - the city has an identity of its own. Cul-de-Sacs, But Smarter: How Montreal is Rethinking Residential Streets
The simple cul-de-sac is one of the greatest innovations of North American suburbia. By blocking through traffic, you create a residential street that’s safer and calmer for kids and that’s quieter and more community-oriented for adults. The suburbs have the advantage of being built like this from the start, but can we retrofit older cities with some of these principles?

Montreal’s Urbanist Transformation: 9 Steps Towards A Better City
It’s always encouraging to see that the European capitals of urban design and livability weren’t always like that. The Dutch didn’t always have their bike paths, and it was just a few years ago that Paris used its riverbanks as highways. Some cities do start with more advantages when it comes to density or mixed-use neighbourhoods, but at the same time every city has a lot of latitude about what direction it wants to go. On this channel we talk a lot about the urbanism of Montreal, but Montreal wasn’t always like this either. Living here has been an exciting experience of seeing the city actively get better, and learning that features we took for granted didn’t even exist until surprisingly recently. In this video we’re going to showcase 9 urbanist transformations in Montreal that we haven...
