BBC News is an operational business division of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) responsible for the gathering and broadcasting of news and current affairs. The department is the world's largest broadcast news organisation and generates about 120 hours of radio and television output each day, as well as online news coverage. The service maintains 50 foreign news bureaux with more than 250 correspondents around the world.James Harding has been Director of News and Current Affairs since April 2013.
The department's annual budget is £350million; it has 3,500 staff, 2,000 of whom are journalists. BBC News' domestic, global and online news divisions are housed within the largest live newsroom in Europe, in Broadcasting House in central London. Parliamentary coverage is produced and broadcast from studios in Millbank in London. Through the BBC English Regions, the BBC also has regional centres across England, as well as national news centres in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. All nations and English regions produce their own local news programmes and other current affairs and sport programmes.
BBC News (also referred to as the BBC News Channel) is the BBC's 24-hour rolling news television network in the United Kingdom. The channel launched as BBC News 24 on 9 November 1997 at 17:30 as part of the BBC's foray into digital domestic television channels, becoming the first competitor to Sky News, which had been running since 1989. For a time, looped news, sport and weather bulletins were available to view via BBC Red Button.
On 22 February 2006, the channel was named News Channel of the Year at the Royal Television Society Television Journalism Awards for the first time in its history. The judges remarked that this was the year that the channel had "really come into its own."
From May 2007, UK viewers could watch the channel via the BBC News website. In April 2008, the channel was renamed BBC News as part of a £550,000 rebranding of the BBC's news output, complete with a new studio and presentation. Its sister service, BBC World was also renamed BBC World News while the national news bulletins became BBC News at One, BBC News at Six and BBC News at Ten. Across the day the channel averages about twice the audience of Sky News.
The turkey is a large bird in the genusMeleagris, which is native to the Americas. One species, Meleagris gallopavo (commonly known as the domestic turkey or wild turkey), is native to the forests of North America, mainly Mexico and the United States. The other living species is Meleagris ocellata or the ocellated turkey, native to the forests of the Yucatán Peninsula. Males of both turkey species have a distinctive fleshy wattle or protuberance that hangs from the top of the beak (called a snood). They are among the largest birds in their ranges. As in many galliformes, the male is larger and much more colorful than the female.
Taxonomy
Turkeys are classed in the family of Phasianidae (pheasants, partridges, francolins, junglefowl, grouse and relatives) in the taxonomicorder of Galliformes. The genus Meleagris is the only genus in the subfamily Meleagridinae, formerly known as the family Meleagrididae, but now subsumed within the family Phasianidae.
History and naming
When Europeans first encountered turkeys in America, they incorrectly identified the birds as a type of guineafowl– i.e., as members of a group of birds which were thought to typically come from the country of Turkey. The name of the North American bird thus became "turkey fowl", which was then shortened to just "turkey". In 1550, the English navigator William Strickland, who had introduced the turkey into England, was granted a coat of arms including a "turkey-cock in his pride proper".
Ampelographers estimate that Turkey is home to between 600–1200 indigenous varieties of Vitis vinifera (the Europeangrapevine), though less than 60 of these are grown commercially. With over 1,500,000 acres (6,100km2) planted under vine, Turkey is the world's fourth-leading producer of grapes.
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Turkey's first president, established the country's first commercial winery in 1925. According to the OIV, the total wine production in 2005 was 287,000 hl. In the first half of 2009, wine consumption in Turkey reached 20,906,762 litres.

Turkey local elections: Setback for Erdogan in big cities
수도 잃은 터키 에르도안… 25년 철권 통치의 '균열'
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was hit with a stunning political defeat on Monday as his party lost control of the capital, Ankara, in local elections.
The results of the municipal balloting on Sunday show the main opposition Republican People's Party is also slightly ahead in the contest for mayor of Istanbul.
The results reflect Erdogan's weakened support as Turkey's economy has fallen into a recession.
The president's AKP Party is challenging the result in both cities.
If the electoral authorities confirm the results of the election, it would be the first change of power in 25 years for Turkey's major cities.

Erdogan fatigue? Turkish president suffers setbacks in local elections
case of Erdogan fatigue? Turkey's president suffering a rare electoral setback in local elections where even though his name wasn't on the ballot, Recep Tayep Erdogan made the race into a referendum about himself tirelessly out on the campaign trail and yet losing the capital Ankara and locked in a dogfight to keep city hall in his native Istanbul.
The results appear to indicate a growing rift between major cities and the rest of the country - with Erdogan's Islamist-rooted AK Party consolidating its lock on power in the Anatolian heartland and losing ground in urban areas to the moderate opposition while in the southeast, the Kurdish rooted HDP regained towns lost by decree in the crackdown on dissent that followed a failed coup in 2016.

case of Erdogan fatigue? Turkey's president suffering a rare electoral setback in local elections where even though his name wasn't on the ballot, Recep Tayep Erdogan made the race into a referendum about himself tirelessly out on the campaign trail and yet losing the capital Ankara and locked in a dogfight to keep city hall in his native Istanbul.

It's not only about the tightening of the screws. Erdogan blames a US-formented plot for the Lira's slide and near-20 percent inflation but many citizens aren't buying it and with an economy in the throes of its first recession in a decade, what's now for Turkey and a democracy where most of the power's been consolidated in one man's hands?

Through the BBC English Regions, the BBC also has regional centres across England, as well as national news centres in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. All nations and English regions produce their own local news programmes and other current affairs and sport programmes.
When the sun came up on the small block of the city We needed to find somewhere to drink Through five days of working and two left to our person We all needed sometime to breathe So use your body as the engine For your weekend This is no time to sleep I want to create, I don't be constricted I'm sick of working all of the time For someone else's needs So give me some kind of section For my protection What is this doing to me I've got a life and desires And it's more than to retire I trust there's more in a life to lead I want a minute with my woman And an hour outside of this city I don't care what you expect of me No, I don't care what you expect of me I want to detach this from me Life's a movement, and I feel like I'm not moving Life's a movement, and I feel like I'm not moving Life's a movement, and I feel like I'm not moving And I fell like I'm not moving Then what is the sense of giving all of your time away When I want to go out into the streets I want to drown myself in mid-nights touch I'm never going to sleep again Until the day comes to collect my sin Just take me home Just take me home It's not worth the effort Just take me home I've spent many nights in this very city It was worthless last time And it will be this evening I've spent many nights in this very city It was worthless last time And it will be this evening
