Royalist is 83GRT and her hull is 23.32 metres (76ft 6in) long, with an overall length of 29.52 metres (96ft 10in). As well as her sails, she is equipped with two Perkinsdiesel engines of 110 kilowatts (150hp) each. The engines drive twin screw propellers.
History
Royalist was built by Groves and Guttridge, East Cowes, Isle of Wight. She was designed by Colin Mudie RDI and launched on 3 August 1971 by Princess Anne. In 1992, Royalist was taken out of the water for a refit, termed as a "Mid-Life Upgrade". Royalist was re-launched by Princess Anne, (now the Princess Royal). Built of steel, with an overall length of 29metres (97feet) (including the bowsprit, which adds about 6metres to the overall length), the ship has a traditional square-rigged brig layout. Royalist took part in the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant in June 2012, and Brest International Festival of the Sea the following month. Royalist was decommissioned at Portsmouth in November 2014, pending arrival of a replacement of the same name in Spring 2015.
Royalist is 34 metres (111ft 7in) long, with a beam of 7.36 metres (24ft 2in). Her draught is 3.25 metres (10ft 8in). The ship's hull is of high tensile steel, with her superstructure of glass reinforced plastic. She will be rigged as a brig, with a sail area of 536 square metres (641sqyd). She has a crew of eight, plus up to 24 Cadets ad 2 adult trainees. Twelve passengers can also be carried.
History
Royalist was built by Astilleros Gondán S.A., Spain. She was launched on 19 December 2014. She cost £4,800,000. Replacing the previous TSRoyalist, she is designed to be easier to sail than her predecessor, and also faster. Royalist is due to enter service in 2015.

TS ROYALIST. ..Newcastle quayside
As the flagship of Sea Cadets, TS ROYALIST, a training brig takes twenty-four cadets to sea for six day voyages. For many young people, a voyage is a life changing experience, leaving them with a profound sense of achievement, self-worth and the confidence to take on the challenges of adult life. The Marine Society and Sea Cadets believe that a voyage at sea gives young people critical life skills, helping to make them leaders, seafarers and guardians of our communities in the future.

TS Royalist - Cadetship To A Life At Sea (maritime documentary)
The Training Ship Royalist, a Royal Navy Cadet two masted brig, sailed into Belfast Harbour in September where we filmed her. We found a cadet crewmember from the original TS Royalist of 1971 and interviewed him about how this experience shaped his naval and commercial career at sea -which is still ongoing. Some great footage included here of shipping activity on Belfast Lough, The TS Royalist, and supporting film and images from folk in England who kindly offered to help illustrate this story.

She has been serving the Sea Cadet Corps since 1971 giving over 30000 people the experience of a life time. We are due a new Tall Ship, TS Royalist in the new year. The crew on board are all great and work super hard to make sure everyone enjoys themselves in a safe way. This is my thanks and tribute to the ship herself and her crew. They have all really changed my life and made me a much more confident person who is admittedly addicted to sailing!! ?I hope you all enjoy looking over my memories and that it reminds you of all of your fab memories :)
