He first began performing music at school dances, and after graduating from high school he began performing at clubs in Kingsville and Corpus Christi, Texas. While cutting his teeth on the club circuit, he met his wife Leann, who encouraged him to write his own songs and that’s when everything changed. In 1967, White traveled to Nashville with nothing but a guitar and a suitcase. As luck would have it, he was able to get in the door of Bob Beckham’s office, a powerful music publisher who owned Combine Music, and he was instantly captivated by White’s look, sound and charisma. The music industry at that time had never seen someone who could cross over so many musical genres.
Things took off in 1969, when ‘Polk Salad Annie’ started climbing the charts and reached 8. On the heels of the release of his first album, ‘Black & White’, White began touring with Sly & the Family Stone, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Steppenwolf and played many huge festivals around the world including the Isle of Wight and the Texas International Pop Festival. Usually accompanied by just a drummer, White established himself as an enigmatic performer and guitar player. His career as being an A-list songwriter also took shape during this era as Brook Benton’s version of White’s song ‘Rainy Night in Georgia’ his 2 on the charts and Dusty Springfield had a hit with his song ‘Willie and Laura Mae Jones’.
White died suddenly of a heart attack on October 24th, 2018. He was a man who was revered as an original by everyone in the music industry. A true legend who treated music with respect and always followed his heart. MORE ➥http://www.tonyjoewhite.com/
Lyrics: Ain't Going Down This Time
I've been laying low
Living in the shadows
Spending time alone
Conversations with the wall
Hanging on
I'm just trying to matter
And I remain
Trying to make some sense of it all
I've been here before I'm familiar with the pain
But I ain't running no more there's one thing changed
Ain't going down this time
This time I ain't going down
Like an undertow
I feel the promise of the nighttime
But I've been down that road
And my search came to an end
I hit the motherload
Enough blues for a lifetime
Now I'm digging deep inside
Trying to find my way back again
You know you've entered the danger zone
When you look in the eyes and there's no one home
Ain't going down this time
This time I ain't going down
Deep in the night
I miss a woman's touch
The fire burns strong
And I'm drawn to the flame
But I pay the price
When I get caught up in the heartbeat
And passion flows
Unrestrained
No one left to blame I'm faced with the truth
And it's all too plain when there's nothing left to lose
Ain't going down this time
This time I ain't goin

Intro: Do you mind if I talk to you for a minute? You see these fellows out here? See, they're afraid of doing that long term thing They think as soon as they lock hearts with another, Something better is gonna come along Well, that's quite possibly true But the truth is, you're gonna have to find yourself a love Or you're gonna find yourself alone Verse 1: See I'm schooled in them streets and streets y'all Yeah I was cooling them clubs Real talk I wasn't thinking nothing 'bout love See I don't want nobody trying to part-take in my stuff Caught in a cage in a one night stand could be enough Oh but one day I, I met this girl and she ruined my philosophy She caught me by surprise And now my heart skips a beat when she comes around I never thought that I'd be ready to settle down See I was about to find myself alone, But I found myself a love Chorus: It's gonna take a minute to evolve But I'd rather have a love than nothing at all I'm ready for a love of my own yeah Can't stay in this place forever Even though I want to, I just see us together And I'd rather have a love, than live a life alone Verse 2: See, I was raised by a good one Momma told me what a real man should be She said son pick one, and treat her like me But I took all of her wisdom, and used it for selfish gains And I know if she saw this pimping, she's be ashamed But now I found her I found this girl and I see things differently You caught me by surprise It's like I got two left feet when she comes around I never thought that I'd be ready to settle down See I was about to find myself alone, But I found myself a love Chorus: It's gonna take a minute to evolve But I'd rather have a love than nothing at all I'm ready for a love of my own yeah Can't stay in this place forever Even though I want to, I just see us together And I'd rather have a love, than live a life alone Well I chose to be the guy that only chases frivolous pleasure But on the other hand, need to build a dream with true love and affection I knew it's going to be quite a challenge I knew it was gonna take some time But I'm here and I'm ready to change Cause I know I've found myself a love Chorus: It's gonna take a minute to evolve But I'd rather have a love than nothing at all I'm ready for a love of my own yeah Can't stay in this á¹—lace forever Even though I want to, I just see us together And I'd rather have a love, than live a life alone Said it's gonna take a minute to evolve But I'd rather have a love than nothing at all I'm ready for a love of my own
And the sax and pedal steel worked for some unique contrast on the subtly burning “Do YouEverMiss Me?” The ghost of Tony Joe White was surely smiling during the long run through the swamp-funk of ...
