Anthony Dominick "Tony" Benedetto (born August 3, 1926), better known by his stage name Tony Bennett, is an American singer of traditional pop standards, big band, show tunes, and jazz. He is also a painter, having created works under the name Anthony Benedetto that are on permanent public display in several institutions. He is the founder of the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Astoria, Queens, New York.
Born and raised in Astoria to an Italian-American family, Bennett began singing at an early age. He fought in the final stages of World War II as a U.S. Army infantryman in the European Theater. Afterward, he developed his singing technique, signed with Columbia Records and had his first number-one popular song with "Because of You" in 1951. Several top hits such as "Rags to Riches" followed in the early 1950s. He then refined his approach to encompass jazz singing. He reached an artistic peak in the late 1950s with albums such as The Beat of My Heart and Basie Swings, Bennett Sings. In 1962, Bennett recorded his signature song, "I Left My Heart in San Francisco". His career and his personal life experienced an extended downturn during the height of the rock music era.
Tony Bennett is an English academic who has also worked in Australia. Bennett is an important figure in the development of the Australian approach to cultural studies known as "cultural policy studies."
His works include The Birth of the Museum, a study of the birth and cultural function of the modern museum, and Outside Literature. He is professor of sociology at the Open University in the UK, and Director of the Economic and Social Science Research Centre on Socio-Cultural Change.
Tony Bennett is Visiting Research Professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences and an associate member of CRESC, the ESRC Centre for Research on Socio-cultural Change. Professor Bennett was the Professor of Sociology at The Open University from 1998 to 2009, and a Founding Director of CRESC, before leaving to take up his current position as Research Professor in Social and Cultural Theory in the Centre for Cultural Research at the University of Western Sydney. He also worked at The Open University in the 1970s and early 1980s, initially as a Staff Tutor in Sociology and subsequently as Chair of the Popular Culture course before leaving for Griffith University where he was Professor of Cultural Studies and also served as Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Director of the ARC Key Centre for Cultural and Media Policy. He is a member of the Australian Academy of the Humanities.
Tony Bennett (born August 22, 1984) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Windsor Express of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL). He was part of an Express team that won the championship in 2014–15. Bennett was a Premier Basketball League All-Star in 2010 and an Independent Basketball Association All-Star in 2012. He played college basketball for the Bradley Braves and led them to a Sweet 16 appearance in the 2006 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament. Prior to that, Bennett attended George Westinghouse College Prep in Chicago, Illinois.
On May 8, 2015, Bennett was suspended indefinitely from the Windsor Express and the National Basketball League of Canada following a pre-game altercation in the 2015 NBL Canada Finals, after which the Halifax Rainmen forfeited Game 7. His team was awarded the championship, but his head coach Bill Jones received a one-year suspension and a $4,000 fine. Even more suspensions were faced by the Rainmen, including those of Kevin Young and Cliff Clinkscales.
Charles Eddie-Lee Hamilton, Jr. (born November 10, 1987), is an American hip hop recording artist and record producer from Harlem, New York City, New York. Hamilton gained major recognition after being featured on the cover of the XXL's 2009 Freshmen cover issue and signing a record deal with Interscope Records, in 2008.
Hamilton was raised in Harlem, New York, Hamilton was exposed to music at an early age. "My mother was an entertainment journalist for the Cleveland Call and Post, so she would take me with her to events when I was just a baby." Hamilton stated his mother always made sure he had an instrument around him. His mother put different kinds of instruments in the basement of their Cleveland home, but he naturally gravitated to the keyboard. Hamilton has stated, "At first, I was just playing the rhythm of the songs I would hear... The older I got, the more proficient I got at hearing the notes." For most of his life, Hamilton was self-taught. Picking up the lead and bass guitar in his teenage years, as well as the drums and harmonica. Hamilton has stated that listening to other genres of music, being exposed to different cultures and experiencing life helped mold his musical sound. Hamilton would leave from his mother's home at the age of 18 & would at times be homeless spending his nights at his friends houses.
All We Know Is Falling is the debut studio album by the American rock band Paramore, released on July 26, 2005. According to Paramore's A&R at Atlantic Records, Steve Robertson, instead of giving the debut album a major radio promotional push, he believed the band should start small and slowly build through word of mouth. In his own words, Robertson "wanted kids to discover the band without it being shoved down their throats."
The album reached No. 8 on the UK Rock Chart. In the USA, it reached No. 30 on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart, but failed to chart on the Billboard 200. The album produced three singles, "Pressure", "Emergency", and "All We Know", but all three failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. The album then became a sleeper success after the success of the band's second album, Riot! in 2007 and in July 2014, nearly nine years after its release, All We Know Is Falling received gold certification from the RIAA.
In September 2005, a special Japanese edition containing the previously unreleased "Oh, Star" was made available. On May 26, 2009, a deluxe edition of the album was released exclusively on iTunes with 2 live tracks and 3 music videos.
My Heart is the 29th studio album by Doris Day, released on September 5, 2011. On September 11, 2011 the album entered the UK chart at number nine, making Doris Day, at age 89, the oldest artist to score a UK Top 10 with an album featuring new material.
Eight of the songs are new releases, with three of them written by Day's son Terry Melcher, and Bruce Johnston. Many of the songs on this collection were recorded in the mid-1980s for her Doris Day's Best Friends television show. The songs were meant to be used as background music for segments featuring Doris and the animals. When the original recordings were retrieved, it was decided that they should be released after being remixed for superior sound quality.
"My One and Only Love" had been issued on Day's 1962 album with André Previn, Duet, "Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries" had been issued on The Love Album (1994), "My Buddy" had been issued on I'll See You in My Dreams (1951) and "Ohio" was issued first on 1960s Show Time.
The Beat of My Heart is a 1957 album by jazz singer Tony Bennett. For this Columbia album Tony Bennett had started working with English jazz pianist Ralph Sharon and together they devised this percussion influenced treatment and invited percussionists Chico Hamilton, Jo Jones, Billy Exiner, Art Blakey, Candido & Sabu to take part; Ralph Sharon was arranger & conductor.

Terry Smith (ENG) | Why Collect Now? If So, How? | What Do Museums Collect? (6-2) MMCA's International Symposium "What Do Museums Collect?" National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul, Multi-Project Hall June 28 (Fri), 2019, 1:00-6:20 p.m. June 29 (Sat), 2019, 1:00-6:00 p.m. What Do Museums Collect? focuses on two points regarding the direction of collection in contemporary art museums. The first is on 'the others' that belong to different racial, ethnic or cultural groups, at times marginalized. The second is on the diverse issues which emerge along with the 'changes of contemporary art media and forms.' *Symposium Day 1 1) Tony Bennett (Research Professor in Social and Cultural Theory in the Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University) “Re-collecting, Re-c...
Recorded on 18th April 2018 This event will consider the prospects for contemporary thinking within the cultural studies tradition to engage with current inequalities. Mindful of the historical importance of this tradition, dating back to the 1960s and including work by Richard Hoggart, Raymond Williams, Stuart Hall, feminist cultural theory, and Bourdieu, the panel will both take stock of these older perspectives and offer their thoughts on contemporary prospects. Tony Bennett is Research Professor in Social and Cultural Theory in the Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University. Angela McRobbie is Professor of Communications at Goldsmiths University of London. She has recently elected Fellow of the British Academy. Her early work was carried out at Birmingham Centr...
Mob boss Paul Vitti and his consigliere Dominic are discussing an upcoming meeting and the Mafia's present-day problems. Just as Dominic warns Vitti to look out for Primo Sindone (an up-and-coming mafioso who wants to be capo di tutti capi), gunmen drive past and kill Dominic. Vitti only barely survives. Psychiatrist Ben Sobel is dealing with his own problems: his son from his first marriage listens to his sessions, his patients are not challenging enough, and his wedding to Laura MacNamara is coming soon. Sobel rear-ends a car belonging to Vitti and the trunk opens, revealing a man bound and gagged inside, which Sobel and his son do not notice. Jelly, one of Vitti's men, takes the blame, but Sobel gives Jelly his business card in case he changes his mind about compensation. During a mee...

Sociologist Peggy Levitt considers how museums help foster culturally diverse societies with a sense of responsibility towards communities beyond their own. Levitt researched museums in Europe, the United States, Asia, and the Middle East. She conducted interviews with museum directors, curators, and policymakers about the paintings, objects, and benefactors that define their collections. In this talk, Levitt argues that museums must play a more active role in addressing social injustice and inequality. After discussing the social contract and the balance of "Freedom From/Freedom To" Ryder looks at another form of social power dynamics that stem from ideological prison design, grow into institutional and workplace behavior modification, and eventually spread to the public internalizing self discipline and punishment, and participating not only in surveilling other citizens, but directing their gaze and attention to re-affirm and verify the authority of the state. This episode introduces Jeremy Benthem's prison design, a limited version of Michel Foucault's ideas from both Discipline & Punish and Power/Knowledge texts, as well as a brief extrapolation of Tony Bennett's "exhibitionary control." Anthony Dominick "Tony" Benedetto (born August 3, 1926), better known by his stage name Tony Bennett, is an American singer of traditional pop standards, big band, show tunes, and jazz.
Listen to the beat
Listen to the beat
Listen to the beat
Listen to the beat
Listen to the beat
Listen to the beat
Trampin' feet
With traffic meet
And fill the street
With boomin' and zoomin' and rhythm
With the merrily beat of my heart
Birds that sing
and bells that ring
their voices bring
the rollicky' frollicky' tempo
of the dancing beat of my heart
It all began
The day you smiled at me
In such a charming way
Need I further say:
Because of you
The world is filled with music
Rumblin' trains and roarin' planes
Their noise contains
The clickety clackety drummin'
From the hummin' beat of my heart
(unintelligible) hours
(unintelligible) powers
thundershowers that pitter and patter
are sounding to the poundin' beat of my heart
And since you're mine
My love song needs another line
With word 'divine'
That your name will rhyme with
While I sing in time with
Every thumpin' bumpin' beat of my heart
(scatting)
The beat of my heart
(scatting)
The beat of my heart
It all began
The day you smiled at me
In such a charming way
Need I further say:
