Aretha Louise Franklin (born March 25, 1942) is an American singer and musician. Franklin began her career singing gospel at her father, minister C. L. Franklin's church as a child. In 1960, at the age of 18, Franklin embarked on a secular career, recording for Columbia Records but only achieving modest success. Following her signing to Atlantic Records in 1967, Franklin achieved commercial acclaim and success with songs such as "Respect", "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" and "Think". These hits and more helped her to gain the title The Queen of Soul by the end of the 1960s decade.
Franklin eventually recorded a total of 112 charted singles on Billboard, including 77 Hot 100 entries, 17 top ten pop singles, 100 R&B entries and twenty number-one R&B singles, becoming the most charted female artist in the chart's history. Franklin also recorded acclaimed albums such as I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You, Lady Soul, Young, Gifted & Black and Amazing Grace before experiencing problems with her record company by the mid-1970s. After her father was shot in 1979, Franklin left Atlantic and signed with Arista Records, finding success with her part in the film, The Blues Brothers and with the albums, Jump to It and Who's Zoomin' Who?. In 1998, Franklin won international acclaim for singing the opera aria, "Nessun Dorma", at the Grammys of that year replacing Luciano Pavarotti. Later that same year, she scored her final Top 40 recording with "A Rose Is Still a Rose". Franklin's other popular and well known hits include, "Rock Steady", "Something He Can Feel" (from the soundtrack to the 1976 film Sparkle), "Jump to It", "Freeway of Love", "Who's Zoomin' Who", "Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves", "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)" (with George Michael), "It Isn't, It Wasn't, It Ain't Never Gonna Be" (with Whitney Houston) and a remake of The Rolling Stones song "Jumpin' Jack Flash".
These Arms of Mine may refer to:
These Arms of Mine was a Canadian television drama series, which aired on CBC Television in the 2000-01 television season.
The show revolved around a group of professional friends in their 30s living in Vancouver, British Columbia. The cast included Alex Carter as photographer David Bishop and Shauna MacDonald as radio announcer Claire Monroe, whose long distance relationship formed the core of the series.
The cast also included Stuart Margolin as Miles Rankin, a former American draft dodger running for Vancouver city council, Conrad Coates as Steven Armstrong, a gay drama teacher grieving the recent death of his partner to AIDS, Babz Chula as magazine editor Esme Price, and Byron Lawson as her much younger restaurateur husband Amos Lee.
"These Arms of Mine" is a song written by soul musician Otis Redding. Redding, at that time a member of Pat Teacake's Band, consisting of lead guitarist Johnny Jenkins, bassist Pat Teacake and vocalist/songwriter Redding, who also served as driver for Jenkins, who did not have a driver's license. Atlantic Records artist representative Joe Galkin showed interest in Jenkins and proposed to send him to a studio. On the way to a gig, Redding had the opportunity to perform the songs "Hey Hey Baby" and "These Arms of Mine" as the set of Jenkins and house band Booker T. & the M.G.'s ended their sets earlier than scheduled.
The performance of the latter song was highly praised; Jim Stewart was so impressed that he offered Redding a contract to record for Stax Records of Memphis, Tennessee, which Redding signed soon afterward. "These Arms of Mine" became Redding's first-released Stax Records single, with "Hey Hey Baby" on its B-side. After a series of unnoticed numbers, the song "These Arms of Mine" became Redding's first successful single and sold around 800,000 copies. The song was also included in Redding's 1964 (Atlantic Records) Atco label debut album Pain in My Heart.

"These Arms of Mine" - A documentary film crew visits the hospital six months after the shooting to document the road to recovery for doctors and patients. The camera lenses follow Derek, Owen, Mark & Callie as they ambitiously perform a rare arm transplant surgery, Meredith helps Cristina put on a brave face for the cameras, and Bailey's patient, Mary, returns for her surgery -- which marks the first time they've all seen of each other since that fateful day -- on "Grey's Anatomy," THURSDAY, OCTOBER 28 (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

A tribute to one of the most romantic TV couples of all time. This is a follow up video to my (Krista's) first GaMM vid: "Say Nothing" which Amandafaye so kindly uploaded for me. http://youtube.com/watch?v=VdsaJ0vHhbY This one is a little different. I used a more recent song, by Joan Osborne. I know some people aren't a fan of her voice, so if you're one of them, just listen to the lyrics. They seem to suit Mrs. Muir and the Captain, very well. I wanted to do something a that gives a glimpse of the pain that Caroyn Muir must feel. Having feelings for a man that she can never touch. I will add, that I was unsure how the song would go over, but I played it for random people, and even those that didn't like the artist, admitted it was pefect for this pair. I even made a girl ...

I talked to you today,
we've loved each other
For so long
in that special way
And if circumstances
should keep us apart
I just want to you to know
That you will remain forever
here in my heart
Sweet
Sweet bitter love
Sweet
Sweet bitter love
The taste
still lingers
Going through
my helpless
fingers
You slipped away
Sweet bitter love
Sweet
Sweet bitter love
Sweet
Sweet bitter love
What joy you told me
What pain you've
brought me
So sure is day
You slipped away
Sweet bitter love
Sweet
Sweet bitter love
Sweet
Sweet bitter love
Sweet
Sweet bitter love
Sweet
Sweet bitter love
My magic dreams
Have lost
their spells
And that was lost
There's an
empty shell
Sweet bitter love
Sweet bitter love
Sweet
Sweet bitter love
Sweet
Sweet bitter love
What have you awaken
And then forsaken
A trusting
heart like mine
Ooh like mine
Sweet bitter love
Sweet bitter love
In the middle
of the night
I want your
sweet sweet
sweet
Sweet bitter love
Sweet bitter love
Sweet
Sweet bitter love
Sweet
Sweet bitter love
Sweet
Sweet bitter love
Sweet
Sweet bitter love
Sweet
Sweet bitter love
Sweet
Sweet bitter love
