The Vietnam War Explained In 25 Minutes | Vietnam War Documentary
The Vietnam War began in good faith, by good people with good intentions. But a combination of American overconfidence, Cold War tensions and imperialist tendencies the Americans had previously fought so hard against, made the war in Vietnam one of America’s darkest pages in its short but dense history. By the end of the war, more than 58,000 Americans would die, as too would 250,000 South Vietnamese soldiers. Over 1 million North Vietnamese soldiers and Viet Cong guerillas would also perish as well as over 2 million civilians’ from both the north and the south, and thousands more from Laos and Cambodia.

The US's fear of communism caused American troops to go into Vietnam under President Kennedy in 1961. A war fought nightly on TV, it engendered a huge anti-war movement. By 1973, Nixon had resigned and the US was forced to withdraw in 1975.
In this episode: Vietnam's early history, its people, dynastic struggles, and invasions. The French, the Japanese in WWII, and the rise of communism in 1941. The emergence of Ho Chi Minh, nationalism into communism. The effect of the domino theory, JFK's assassination, and the Gulf of Tonkin incident. The US was drawn into bloody conflict.

Why New Soldiers Didn’t Survive in Vietnam
After graduating from college in 1965, Robert Ferguson enlisted in the United States Marine Corps to escape the draft. Ferguson completed Officers Candidate School, but was rejected from flight training due to poor depth perception. Instead, he trained as a radar operator and deployed to Vietnam in 1966, completed seventy combat missions in seven months. He was then reassigned as a Forward Air Controller (FAC) to coordinate air support in the field. In 1967, Ferguson was severely burned when an armored vehicle detonated an explosive device. He was evacuated and spent the remainder of his military career recovering in various hospitals in Japan and the United States.

Vietnam War Booby Traps: How do they work?
In this video we will look at how the booby traps used by the Vietcong soldiers during the Vietnam War work.
Vietcong Booby Traps became known because of the damage they caused not only physically but also psychologically to American soldiers during the Vietnam war.
Physical and psychological because the damage and pain caused by these booby traps on the human body was really horrifyingly unimaginable.
The American soldiers entering the enemy's den would be really nervous because at any moment, one of them will fall victim to a booby trap.

The Vietnam War is a highly controversial topic at the best of times. This video seeks to explore that little-known perspective, analysing the thoughts and motives behind perhaps the strangest, yet most persistent communist governments in Asia.

The Vietnam War brought everything into question. The rationalization of destroying villages in order to save them. America’s morality in the face of My Lai. The meaning of free-fire zones, shooting anything that moved as soldiers placed a cheapness on the lives of civilians. The falsification of body counts to increase kill death ratios. The unimportance of battle as men charged up hills because their generals told them too and after losing one platoon or two platoons they marched away to leave the hill for the enemy. Pride allowed the most unimportant battles to be blown into extravaganzas because America couldn't lose, and she couldn't retreat and because it didn't matter how many lives were lost to prove that point.

Please note: During the first 5 - 6 minutes, Vietnam’s early history is briefly outlined. Professor Kiernan speaks about “the Portuguese and the Philippines.” To clarify, the Philippines were colonized by the Spanish, not the Portuguese. I’d like to thank a commentator—you know who you are—for pointing this out.

The Vietnam War was the longest war in American history up to that point, only surpassed by the War in
Afghanistan in 2021 lasting six months longer. The war dramatically hurt the reputation of the United States. It hurt…uh…the UNITED STATES quite a bit, too.
Today, the Vietnam War is seen as pointless. A big freaking mistake, based on lies, that led to millions of innocent people dying. It was a civil war that many say the United States had no business being a part of. Unlike the Korean War, the United Nations wanted nothing to do with it.

In 1965, US troops officially landed in Vietnam, but American involvement in the ongoing conflict between the Communist North and the Anti-Communist South had started more than a decade earlier. So, why did the US-Vietnam War break out in the first place?

But during their many debates on the subject, Western historians rarely pause to consider how the conflict was seen through the eyes of the Vietnamese people, either North or South. This video seeks to explore that little-known perspective, analysing the thoughts and motives behind perhaps the strangest, yet most persistent communist governments in Asia.

The Untold Story Of America's Defeat In Vietnam | Our History
May, 1961: President Kennedy authorises the first American Military advisers to aid South Vietnam against the forces of North Vietnam. Bringing together the latest research on the ground and the testimony of veterans from both sides, the film investigates why America - the world's richest nation - couldn't protect South Vietnam from tiny, poverty-stricken North Viet...

The friendlies are lifted one by one until Mad Dog is left alone. He calls in for Close Air Support several times. The enemy fire intensified to the point the radio offered Mad Dog Shriver assistance with a fresh unit of ground troops.
He rejects the offers and replies: [QUOTE] “No, no…I’ve got them right where I want them: surrounded from the inside.”

Some men are wounded and are slowly hoisted up through the thick jungle canopy to a chopper. The enemy presses on, but Mad Dog does not flinch. He retaliates with all the ammunition at his disposal.

🥒 *ABOUT BEFRS:*
Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.
If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture. Peace!

May, 1961: President Kennedy authorises the first American Military advisers to aid South Vietnam against the forces of North Vietnam. When the United States of America went to War in Vietnam, it was a nation riding high. Confident and ambitious, the world's greatest superpower expected this would be an easy war. Inspired by their charismatic young president, many ordinary Americans, too, felt it was their duty to champion democracy around the world. But just a few years later they withdrew from Vietnam, humiliated and in disarray. How could America have lost? Bringing together the latest research on the ground and the testimony of veterans from both sides, the film investigates why America - the world's richest nation - couldn't protect South Vietnam from tiny, poverty-stricken North Vietnam.
