Anthony Charles Lynton Blair (born 6 May 1953) is a British Labour Party politician, who served as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1997 to 2007. He now runs a consultancy business and performs charitable work. Blair was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sedgefield from 1983 to 2007 and Leader of the Labour Party from 1994 to 2007. Blair led Labour to a landslide victory in the 1997 general election, winning 418 seats, the most the party has ever held. The party went on to win two more elections under his leadership: in 2001, in which it won another landslide victory, and in 2005, with a reduced majority.
Blair was elected Labour Party leader in the leadership election of July 1994, following the sudden death of his predecessor, John Smith. Under Blair's leadership, the party used the phrase "New Labour" to distance it from previous Labour policies and its opposition to the traditional conception of socialism. Blair declared support for a new conception that he referred to as "social-ism", involving politics that recognised individuals as socially interdependent, and advocated social justice, cohesion, equal worth of each citizen, and equal opportunity. Critics of Blair denounced him for having the Labour Party abandon genuine socialism and accepting capitalism. Supporters, including the party's public opinion pollster Philip Gould, stated that after four consecutive general election defeats, Labour had to demonstrate that it had made a decisive break from its left-wing past, in order to win again.
Five British politicians (including Tony Blair himself, performed by director Mike A. Martinez wearing a paper mask) travel to West Virginia searching for a legend called The Tony Blair Witch. They begin by interviewing the locals and then bumble around a ghost town breaking windows and doors before a gang of local bumpkins kills them off. The film is presented as a mockumentary much like the film it spoofs.
Reception
The film has been very poorly received by audiences, and holds a rating of 2.3/10 on IMDb (as voted by users), and is #78 on the website's Bottom 100 films, a list of the worst-rated films on the site.
The Blair Witch Project is a 1999 American found footagehorror film written, directed and edited by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez and produced by Haxan Films. The film relates the fictional story of three student filmmakers (Heather Donahue, Michael C. Williams, and Joshua Leonard) who disappeared while hiking in the Black Hills near Burkittsville, Maryland in 1994 to film a documentary about a local legend known as the Blair Witch. The viewers are told the three were never seen or heard from again, although their video and sound equipment (along with most of the footage they shot) was discovered a year later and that this "recovered footage" is the film the viewer is watching.
The film received unexpected acclaim from critics and went on to gross over US$248 million worldwide, making it one of the most successful independent movies of all time. The DVD was released on Tuesday, October 26, 1999 and presented only in full-screen.
A sequel was released on October 27, 2000 titled Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2. Another sequel was planned for the following year, but did not materialize. On September 2, 2009, it was announced that Sánchez and Myrick were pitching the third film, HEART OF LOVE. A trilogy of video games based on the films was released in 2000. The Blair Witch franchise has since expanded to include various novels, dossiers, comic books and additional merchandise.
"Tony Blair" is a single by Chumbawamba which was made available exclusively to the UK mailing list as a Christmas present in 1999. The song is an attack on then-British Prime Minister Tony Blair, performed in a 1950s doo-wop style. The lyrics read like a heartbroken letter to an ex-lover who had broken all his promises.
Rupert Perry, the head of EMI Records UK at the time, was reportedly very displeased with the band for issuing the single, and sent them a letter which included the statement "I actually think Tony is really fab". All copies of the CD in EMI offices were later confiscated. The song can be downloaded in mp3 format from the band's website.
Over one million people have signed a petition against the knighthood of former prime minister Tony Blair, reviving the debate surrounding his place in history.

[Jason:] I found a secret hidden in dark Something that no one knows A revelation to my eyes Words I can't understand inside it What does it mean? What does it hide? The Federation's job is clearer now... I can see the plot, it's laying down... And I feel dismayed... I have to spread the news This plan must come to nothing I have to spread the news The project must be halted Life evolution out of control No more a human birth In a society so produced Perfect and working for a sole end Taking the right Rejecting the wrong The Federation's job is clearer now... I can see the plot, it's laying down... And I feel dismayed... I have to spread the news This plan must come to nothing I have to spread the news
