Sir Stirling Craufurd Moss, OBE (born 17 September 1929) is a British former Formula One racing driver. An inductee into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, he achieved success in several categories of competition and has been described as "the greatest driver never to win the World Championship". Moss finished as championship runner-up on four occasions and third a further three times between 1955 and 1961.
Early life
Moss was born in London, the son of Aileen (née Craufurd) and Alfred Moss, a dentist of Bray, Berkshire, where Stirling was raised at Long White Cloud house on the right bank of the River Thames. Alfred was an amateur racing driver who had been placed 16th at the 1924 Indianapolis 500. Stirling was a gifted horse rider as was his younger sister, Pat Moss, who became a successful rally driver and married Erik Carlsson.
Race-car driver Gino Borgesa meets a ballerina, Nicole Laurent, whose pet poodle causes a crash at the track. She persuades an ex-lover to give Gino money for a new car. They begin a romance, although Gino warns her that his racing comes first.
After winning a 1,000-mile race, Gino is hired by a successful racing team managed by Maglio, who is leery of Gino's reckless driving tactics but takes a chance on him at the urging of veteran driver Carlos Chavez.
Nicole is troubled by Gino's unconcerned attitude about a mechanic accidentally killed at the track. A crash at a race in Brussels seriously injures Gino, whose leg is not amputated only because Nicole persuades doctors not to perform the operation.
Once he recovers, Gino begins taking painkillers as well as unnecessary risks. His behavior, too, is out of control, causing him to insult Michel Caron, a young French driver who admires him. Nicole is offended, and the last straw comes when Gino relentlessly wins the final race of Carlos's career, even after Maglio instructed him to let Carlos have one last victory.
The only physical facility at this station is a cinder-block-walled, shingle-roofed bench shelter facing the track. A pay telephone and a newsstand stand nearby.
Permitted parking is also available and costs $125 per year. These permits are for parking at the Gillette, Stirling, and Millington stations.
Stirling, also known as Stirling Plantation, is a historic plantation home located near Massaponax, Spotsylvania County, Virginia. It was built between 1858 and 1860, and is a 2 1/2-story, five bay, brick Greek Revival and Federal dwelling. It measures 56 feet by 36 feet, and has a hipped roof and four interior end chimneys. It sits on a raised basement and features entrance porches added about 1912. Also on the property are the contributing kitchen dependency, smokehouse, family cemetery, and the undisturbed archaeological sites of a weaving house and three slave cabins.
Mosses are small flowerlessplants that typically grow in dense green clumps or mats, often in damp or shady locations. The individual plants are usually composed of simple, one-cell thick leaves, attached to a stem that may be branched or unbranched and has only a limited role in conducting water and nutrients. Although some species have vascular tissue this is generally poorly developed and structurally different from similar tissue found in other plants. They do not have seeds and after fertilisation develop sporophytes (unbranched stalks topped with single capsules containing spores). They are typically 0.2–10cm (0.1–3.9in) tall, though some species are much larger, like Dawsonia, the tallest moss in the world, which can grow to 50cm (20in) in height.
Mosses are commonly confused with lichens, hornworts, and liverworts. Lichens may superficially look like mosses, and have common names that include the word "moss" (e.g., "reindeer moss" or "iceland moss"), but are not related to mosses. Mosses, hornworts, and liverworts are collectively called "bryophytes". Bryophytes share the property of having the haploidgametophyte generation as the dominant phase of the life cycle. This contrasts with the pattern in all "vascular" plants (seed plants and pteridophytes), where the diploidsporophyte generation is dominant.
Sir Patrick Stewart hosts this documentary where he spends time with motor sports legend Sir Stirling Moss in order to discover and learn more about the great man and his life.

The extraordinary story of Stirling Moss and Norman Dewis. How many lives do you think the disc brake has saved since its introduction to the car in 1952?
Join Sir Stirling Moss, Norman Dewis and an extraordinary lineup of motorsport legends including Murray Walker, Sir Jackie Stewart, Martin Brundle, Derek Bell, and Andrew Frankel as they drive us down memory lane telling an incredible story that really stopped the world with unseen footage and interviews.
Stirling - already on his way to becoming one of the greatest racing drivers of all time - took a new brake concept that Norman Dewis, legendary Jaguar test driver and engineer, had been working on alongside Jaguar and Dunlops engineering team to revolutionise the braking ability of cars - which at the time were falling behind dramatically compared to how fast cars of the '50s were starting to go.
This documentary was filmed 8 years ago but never released. When Sir Stirling sadly passed away at Easter 2020, I took the original footage I'd shot and started again to produce this film, and with the significant aid of friends, this brand new reworking of the project is released so that the story can be told once and for all.
The Behind the scenes is out now! Check it out.

The Pirelli Classic Marathon is a celebration of a Golden Era of British rallying, bringing together an amazing collection of vintage cars for an epic journey across Europe and open to cars over 20 years old.
In 1989, a fantastic line-up of cars and competitors gathered in London for the start of the 2,000-mile event that would cross six countries.
Among the determined drivers were some real stars, including Stirling Moss at the wheel of an MGB, Paddy Hopkirk in a Mini Cooper S, Roger Clarke and co-driver Tony Mason in a Ford Cortina, and Scandinavian World Rally greats Ove Andersson and Timo Makinen.
This review of the 1989 Pirelli Classic Marathon follows the action from London to Italy, via Belgium, Germany, Austria and the former Yugoslavia.
