Sir Stirling Craufurd Moss, OBE (born 17 September 1929) is a British former Formula One racing driver. An inductee into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, he achieved success in several categories of competition and has been described as "the greatest driver never to win the World Championship". Moss finished as championship runner-up on four occasions and third a further three times between 1955 and 1961.
Early life
Moss was born in London, the son of Aileen (née Craufurd) and Alfred Moss, a dentist of Bray, Berkshire, where Stirling was raised at Long White Cloud house on the right bank of the River Thames. Alfred was an amateur racing driver who had been placed 16th at the 1924 Indianapolis 500. Stirling was a gifted horse rider as was his younger sister, Pat Moss, who became a successful rally driver and married Erik Carlsson.
"It is necessary to relax your muscles when you can. Relaxing your brain is fatal."
"It has taken me thirty three years and a bang on the head to get my values right."
"I believe that if a man wanted to walk on water, and was prepared to give up everything in life, he could do it."
"To achieve anything in this game, you must be prepared to dabbled on the boundary of disaster."
"There are two things no man will admit he cannot do well: drive and make love."
"I was taught that everything is attainable if you are prepared to give up, to sacrifice, to get it. Whatever you want to do, you can do it, if you want it badly enough, and I do believe that. I believe that if I wanted to run a mile is four minutes I could do it. I would have to give up everything else in my life, but I could run a mile in four minutes. I believe that if a man wanted to walk on water and was prepared to give up everything else in life, he could do that."
""If God had meant for us to walk, why did he give us feet that fit car pedals?""
Sir Patrick Stewart hosts this documentary where he spends time with motor sports legend Sir Stirling Moss in order to discover and learn more about the great man and his life.

The extraordinary story of Stirling Moss and Norman Dewis. How many lives do you think the disc brake has saved since its introduction to the car in 1952?
Join Sir Stirling Moss, Norman Dewis and an extraordinary lineup of motorsport legends including Murray Walker, Sir Jackie Stewart, Martin Brundle, Derek Bell, and Andrew Frankel as they drive us down memory lane telling an incredible story that really stopped the world with unseen footage and interviews.
Stirling - already on his way to becoming one of the greatest racing drivers of all time - took a new brake concept that Norman Dewis, legendary Jaguar test driver and engineer, had been working on alongside Jaguar and Dunlops engineering team to revolutionise the braking ability of cars - which at the time were falling behind dramatically compared to how fast cars of the '50s were starting to go.
This documentary was filmed 8 years ago but never released. When Sir Stirling sadly passed away at Easter 2020, I took the original footage I'd shot and started again to produce this film, and with the significant aid of friends, this brand new reworking of the project is released so that the story can be told once and for all.
The Behind the scenes is out now! Check it out.

Moss was born in London, the son of Aileen (née Craufurd) and Alfred Moss, a dentist of Bray, Berkshire, where Stirling was raised at Long White Cloud house on the right bank of the River Thames.
