Tuning systems, the various systems of pitches used to tune an instrument, and their theoretical bases.
Tuning practice
Tuning is the process of adjusting the pitch of one or many tones from musical instruments to establish typical intervals between these tones. Tuning is usually based on a fixed reference, such as A = 440Hz. Out of tune refers to a pitch/tone that is either too high (sharp) or too low (flat) in relation to a given reference pitch. While an instrument might be in tune relative to its own range of notes, it may not be considered 'in tune' if it does not match A = 440Hz (or whatever reference pitch one might be using). Some instruments become 'out of tune' with damage or time and must be readjusted or repaired.
Different methods of sound production require different methods of adjustment:
Tuning to a pitch with one's voice is called matching pitch and is the most basic skill learned in ear training.
Out of Tune is a Polish dance-punk and indie rock band. Their music combines elements of rock, pop and electro. The band was formed in Warsaw in 2005 by a bass player and vocalist Eryk Sarniak, guitarist Maciek Sobczyński and drummer Michał Witkowski. After a year, a band joined Mateusz Gągol, who plays keyboards, guitar, laptop and backing vocals.
History
Their first concert took place in Smok club, Otwock, in 2005. After a few gigs in Warsaw, and in clubs all over Poland, the band decided to enrich their sound by adding keyboards and electronics. In 2006, a keyboard player, Mateusz Gągol joined the group. Since then Out of Tune add electro sounds to their music.
In this year also, a band recorded an EP Killer Pop Machine. It contains 4 songs, and was produced by Adam Wasilkowski, former guitarist of a polish band Buzu Squat. EP Killer Pop Machine was released in a small number of copies, by a band.
EP, and single Killer Pop Machine brought more popularity, fans, and interest from media to the band. The band was mentioned and appeared in polish MTV (N-Style program ), Polish Radio, and commercial radio stations, daily newspapers, and magazines. EP Killer Pop Machine received good reviews.
Nicely Out of Tune is the debut album by Lindisfarne, released in late 1970. It charted more than a year after release, thanks to the huge success of their second album Fog on the Tyne, which topped the charts early in 1972.
"Lady Eleanor" and "Clear White Light" were both released as singles. The former was reactivated once the group became successful, and gave them a No. 3 hit in 1972. "We Can Swing Together", a song written by Hull about an abortive police raid on a party, became one of their favourites on stage, featuring an extended medley of traditional folk tunes played on harmonica by Ray Jackson. A live version can be found on the group's 'Lindisfarne Live', recorded in 1971 and released in 1973, and as a bonus track on their third album, 'Dingly Dell'. Elvis Costello singled out "Winter Song" as one of the greatest songs ever.
The title of the seventh track, "Alan in the River With Flowers", is a parody of The Beatles' song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, and was given its original title of "Float Me Down The River" on the American version. The "flatulette" was actually one of the band members blowing raspberries during the instrumental break in "Down".
. After Viking invasions and the Norman conquest of England a priory was reestablished. A small castle was built on the island in 1550.
Toponymy
The island of Lindisfarne appears under the Old Welsh name Medcaut in the 9th century Historia Brittonum. Following up on a suggestion by Richard Coates, Andrew Breeze proposes that the name ultimately derives from Latin Medicata [Insula] (English: Healing [Island]), owing perhaps to the island's reputation for medicinal herbs.
Both theParker ChronicleandPeterborough Chronicle annals of AD 793 record the Old English name, Lindisfarena. The soubriquet Holy Island was in use by the 11th century when it appears in Latin as Insula Sacra. The reference was to saints Aidan and Cuthbert.
Lindisfarne are an English folk rock and progressive rock band from Newcastle upon Tyne established in 1968 (originally called Brethren). The original line-up comprised Alan Hull (vocals, guitar, piano), Ray Jackson (vocals, mandolin, harmonica), Simon Cowe (guitar, mandolin, banjo, keyboards), Rod Clements (bass guitar, violin) and Ray Laidlaw (drums).
They are best known for the albums Nicely Out of Tune (1970), Fog on the Tyne (1971) which became the biggest selling UK album in 1972, Dingly Dell (1972) and Back and Fourth (1978), and also for the success of songs such as "Meet Me on the Corner", "Lady Eleanor", "Run For Home" and "We Can Swing Together".
Early days
The group began as 'The Downtown Faction', led by Rod Clements, but soon changed their name to Brethren. In 1968, they were joined by Alan Hull and became Lindisfarne, the name of an island off the coast of Northumberland.
Charisma Records
In 1970 Tony Stratton-Smith signed them to Charisma Records and their debut album Nicely Out of Tune was released that year. This album defined their mixture of bright harmony and up tempo folk rock. Neither single released from the album, "Clear White Light" nor "Lady Eleanor", charted; nor did the album itself at first. However the band obtained a strong following from its popular live concerts and built up a following as one of the top festival bands.

Venezuela military band plays out-of-tune Chinese anthem in welcome ceremony
When China\'s Xi Jinping touched down in Venezuela earlier this week he was met by the site of an immaculately presented guard of honour and greeted with a rendition of the Chinese national anthem. Unfortunately the military band performing the March of the Volunteers appeared to have forgotten to tune their instruments or properly learn the piece. Read the full story here.

The songs you sing are meaningless The words you say are wrong. Your saturday nights they are sober And your Sundays are too long Chorus: Your lucky days are over Your lucky days are gone You've cast away your coloured coat The illusions seemed too strong Now in the wintery season You can hear the Scarecrow Song Chorus: Your lucky days are over Your lucky days are gone The bells have all stopped their ringing The music sounded wrong. And now the only song, worth singing Is the sad old Scarecrow Song Chorus: Your lucky days are over Your lucky days are gone
