The Great Depression was a severe worldwide economic depression that took place during the 1930s. The timing of the Great Depression varied across nations; however, in most countries it started in 1929 and lasted until the late 1930s. It was the longest, deepest, and most widespread depression of the 20th century. In the 21st century, the Great Depression is commonly used as an example of how far the world's economy can decline.
The depression originated in the United States, after a fall in stock prices that began around September 4, 1929, and became worldwide news with the stock market crash of October 29, 1929 (known as Black Tuesday). Between 1929 and 1932, worldwide GDP fell by an estimated 15%. By comparison, worldwide GDP fell by less than 1% from 2008 to 2009 during the Great Recession. Some economies started to recover by the mid-1930s. However, in many countries, the negative effects of the Great Depression lasted until the beginning of World War II.
The Great Depression had devastating effects in countries both rich and poor. Personal income, tax revenue, profits and prices dropped, while international trade plunged by more than 50%. Unemployment in the U.S. rose to 25% and in some countries rose as high as 33%.
The Great Depression in the United Kingdom, also known as the Great Slump, was a period of national economic downturn in the 1930s, which had its origins in the global Great Depression. It was Britain's largest and most profound economic depression of the 20th century. The Great Depression originated in the United States in late 1929 and quickly spread to the world. Britain had never experienced the boom that had characterized the U.S., Germany, Canada and Australia in the 1920s, so its effect appeared less severe. Britain's world trade fell by half (1929–33), the output of heavy industry fell by a third, employment profits plunged in nearly all sectors. At the depth in summer 1932, registered unemployed numbered 3.5 million, and many more had only part-time employment.
Particularly hardest hit by economic problems were the industrial and mining areas in the north of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. Unemployment reached 70% in some areas at the start of the 1930s (with more than 3 million out of work nationally) and many families depended entirely on payments from local government known as the dole. Politically the Conservative Party dominated the era and the Labour Party was seriously hurt.
To clarify, Hitler was NOT the founder of the Nazi party, sorry for any confusion!
The Great Depression was the worst economic downturn of the industrialized world, crippling the wealth of Americans throughout the 1930's. How did it happen? Let's find out with a 5 Minute History Lesson.

What Caused the Great Depression?
The Great depression sent millions into poverty, resulted in bread lines, bank runs, and otherwise the collapse of the global economy. It’s not almost been 100 years since this catastrophic event - so what caused it? Well, economists can’t really agree - and it could happen again.

At the start of 1929, the end of the Roaring Twenties, the economy in the United States was sitting pretty with further progress on every horizon. Wall Street admittedly saw a minor stock market crash in the spring, but things quickly balanced back out and people were happily ignoring any further signs of troubles to come. By the fall, however, the market seemed to have reached its peak and started the downhill journey. With mass numbers of the American population having increasingly been investing in the stock market, some people were finally s...

The stock market crash of 1929 didn’t cause the Great Depression by itself, but it is a powerful symbolic starting point to the greatest economic disaster of the twentieth century. On that dark day in October 1929, fortunes were lost and fear of financial insecurity rose throughout the United States and the world. In 1932, the low point of the Depression, as much as a third of Americans were out of work and even more people were unemployed in other countries. The stock market reached its lowest point ever and wouldn’t rise to its pre-Depression levels for almost twenty years.

With mass numbers of the American population having increasingly been investing in the stock market, some people were finally starting to pay a bit more attention to the falling and volatile prices. Stocks were being sold at a faster pace now, and October brought about Black Thursday on the 24th - the day that the market crashed by 11% and Americans frantically hoped to sell what they had while they still could.

A one-minute video which explains what the great depression was all about. The events which took place as of 1929 definitely had a huge impact on the historic events which followed and even as far as the present is concerned, it's hard to genuinely understand the current worldwide economic landscape without knowing a thing or two about the Great Depression of 1929.

The Great depression sent millions into poverty, resulted in bread lines, bank runs, and otherwise the collapse of the global economy. It’s not almost been 100 years since this catastrophic event - so what caused it? Well, economists can’t really agree - and it could happen again.
In which John Green teaches you about the Great Depression. So, everybody knows that the Great Depression started with the stock market crash in 1929, right? Not exactly. The Depression happened after the stock market crash, but wasn't caused by the crash. John will teach you about how the depression started, what Herbert Hoover tried to do to fix it, and why those efforts failed.

How misunderstood and unsatisfied can you possibly get Negative space - Man what a concept Is this still life Well let's see the spoon is empty the bowl is empty the glass half empty and you are totally full of shit How contrived You cried "wolf" now the monkey shines And the muses are laughing at your art of living It's damn insulting to those who don't have a choice about starving to death When the mind is empty the mouth is always screaming My soul is empty and my heart is screaming, feed me. Now that sounds romantic - oh how romantic Oh how brillant How sad Hw fucking lonely You are your only friend You are your own worst enemy No one is going to hurt you You do that better yourself No one is going to desert you You do that yourself You are the best so better yourself

However, Reich corrected the MSNBC host, saying. "That $2600 family estimate was made in August, before we knew how large the tariffs are going to be." ... And those retaliations — those tariff wars — ended up worsening the GreatDepression.".
