"Take Control" is a song by American singer-songwriter Amerie from her third studio album, Because I Love It (2007). It was released as the album's lead single on October 17, 2006. The song was written by Cee-Lo Green, Mike Caren, and Amerie, and produced by Caren, with additional production handled by Cee-Lo, Amerie, and Len Nicholson. "Take Control" contains excerpts from the 1970 song "Jimmy, Renda-se" by Brazilian musician Tom Zé, and elements of the 1980 song "You Make My Dreams" by Hall & Oates.
Recording
After Cee-Lo wrote the song, he approached Amerie to record it. Amerie said she did not normally do commissions and record other people's songs because they did not work for her, but because she had "always loved" Cee-Lo since his time with Goodie Mob, she agreed. She felt the song was not uptempo enough to suit her, so she wrote a hook, a bridge, and added a horn section to add to the song her "signature" and "a different flavour", making it a "dance record".
Tori Alamaze, the reference singer on the song, said that it was originally offered to her, but Amerie denied this, saying she thought it "really wack on [Alamaze's] part" to make such a claim.
"Take Control" is the third single from London-based collective Roll Deep's album, Winner Stays On, and preludes the album release by a week. The song, which features vocals from singer Alesha Dixon, released in the UK on 31 October.
Critical reception
Fraser McAlpine of BBC Chart Blog gave the song a positive review stating:
Look at this picture. eleven men, one Roll Deep. Do you know what that says to me? It says here are eleven fellas who probably spend quite a lot of time queuing in order to do their job, or waiting to have another go, once theirs has finished. They might cover it up with an arm in the air or two, a walk from one side of the stage to the other, a moody stare into the crowd, some bouncy high-fives, and a certain amount of joining in at the end of each line, but when you get right down to it, it's all just queueing.
And to make matters worse, sometimes the queue is barged by a singer. Someone who isn't actually even IN Roll Deep. They've be brought in on chorus duties, taking precious rhyme time away from people who've been in the queue for ages, actually. It's not fair, just because they can provide some melodic light relief from all of that truth-spitting, that they get to stroll right to the front. That's basically added an extra thirty seconds of arm waving and an agreeable "yeah yeah" or two, right there.

In the My Little Pony franchise, the Earth ponies are ponies without a horn or wings, who usually have a special connection to nature and animals. They lack the ability to cast magic spells like the unicorn ponies, or the ability to stand on clouds like the pegasus ponies. Usually, they are the basic form of the My Little Pony toys.

Olly Jeffries is an on-again, off-again actor whose career has stagnated over the years. He ends up taking a gig as a bathroom attendant, where one night he is forced to face a reality he's not yet ready to embrace.
Director Marshall Tyler has crafted an impeccably executed, beautifully textured psychological portrait of a man at a turning point in his life, confronted with events and desires out of his control.
Olly exists in a world that seems removed from most of reality, drifting through the alienating nightscapes of Los Angeles and then working in the odd, almost claustrophobic confines of a men's bathroom.
The film is anchored by a restrained and excellent performance by Tunde Adebimpe, best known as the lead singer of Brooklyn-based band TV on the Radio and has acted in the film "Rachel Getting Married." He essays the role of a man who is at stasis in his life, almost like an object in a tableau. In his position as an attendant, people often use him as a sounding board and mirror, talking at him but never really listening to him.
The camera movements and shot that capture him are subtle and sophisticated, veering between raw movement and cerebral slower motion, depending on where the character is at psychologically. The sound design also takes care to help establish Olly in a disconnected world, as snippets of music, dialogue and ambient sound swirl around him, untethered from their sources. The result is a portrait of a man whose world happens to him, while he stays aloof from it, fixed and unfocused.
But when his soon-to-be ex barges into his workplace -- and he is confronted with degrading behaviors from some of the people he has to tend to -- he's forced to come forward in the drama of his own life, puncturing his passivity, even if it's through anger, pain and suffering.
This film favorite at Sundance -- which was also executive produced by Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis -- is an acute examination of how easy it is to drift through life as it happens, and how hard it is to let go of a dream and fantasy. Beautifully observed and filled with wry flashes of observational humor, "Night Shift" offers a lyrical look at how suffering and adversity can be used to create meaning, and how they can help push us out of our shells and into life.
